Reviews for The Oberoi, Mauritius

An amazing stay at a fabulous Beach Resort and Hotel.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

This was an amazing stay at a fabulous Beach Resort and Hotel. The facilities, location, rooms and staff are all absolutely top class. This was our first time at an Oberoi Hotel, but it will not be our last. Without doubt one of the best stays we have ever had anywhere in the world. Anyone going to Mauritius should do themselves a favour and stay here.

A magical week in a great location

A truly impressive hotel. It’s set in a wonderful location within the coral reef so the sea is always calm. The grounds are immaculate and the tasteful restoration and use of historical artefacts within the grounds is fascinating. The grounds themselves are colourful and immaculate. The rooms (we had a sea view room) were wonderfully located and felt very individual. They were quiet and private and felt spacious and luxurious. They very well serviced by the housekeeping team with lots of nice touches. The 3 main restaurants were in great locations and each offered something slightly different. The food in each was of a very high standard with a wide range of choices for food and drinks. We were on a half board package and this was very good value as there did not seem to be any restrictions on the menus for us. Drinks were on the whole reasonably priced for a hotel like this. Wine is expensive but this seems to be the norm in Mauritius from what we can make out. The hotel facilities were extensive. There was a spa and fitness centre offering a wide variety of treatments and classes. The 2 pool areas were welcoming and well serviced. We spent time in the adult pool which was a haven of tranquility. There were many water sports options on offer at the boat shed and the team there were very helpful and friendly. Last but not least, the staff were amazing. Helpful, positive and friendly without being too stuffy or formal. They really help set this hotel apart. Everyone we came across was great. Rhubesh the sommelier gave some great advice, Mevin in the restaurant, Isaac in the bar, Rakesh in the boat shed and Raj.

Beautiful and relaxing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Hotel is set in beautifully manicured gardens, with stunning bird life. All of the staff were friendly and helpful and are a credit to the hospitality industry. We had a very relaxing time on the beach, which we had to ourselves most of the time. We were given iced water, refreshing towels, fruit and ice creams on the beach. We went whale and dolphin watching, with Parkash from the Leon boat just in front of the hotel boathouse, which was amazing. He is great at spotting the whales and looked after us well. He even changed the day that we went out, because the original day was too choppy. The boathouse staff were very friendly too. All in all a great time from start to finish. Thank you everyone.

Excellent from start to finish

Wonderful 5 days at the Oberoi Mauritius. One of the reasons for choosing this hotel was that all the restaurants are a la carte and almost everything on the menu was included in the half board plan without supplement. The chefs really took great care to cater for my wife extensive allergies and made her special items like gluten free bread. The staff and level of service at this hotel is superb and the rooms and facilities are beautiful. There is also a program of complimentary activities like wine and rum tastings , star gazing through a telescope, cooking class and wellness activities like Tai Chi and Yoga. The water sports are also complimentary and the beach team are always on hand to keep guests hydrated and bring occasional goodies like fruit plates and ice creams. The hotel is also relatively small compared to other resorts so there's no problem with getting sunbeds or access to the activities etc 100% recommend this hotel

Unbelievably good hospitality

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Truly one of the greatest hospitality experiences we’ve ever had. We’ve done a handful of five star resorts across different geographies, and while the rooms, facilities and grounds here are certainly comparable and hold their own extremely well, the service we received was unlike anything we’ve ever encountered. It’s difficult to find the words to describe how attentive, caring and kind every member of staff treated us. My wife and I also celebrated a small, yet unconventional, Hindu ceremony here which required special arrangements to be made, but we were taken aback at how picture perfect every aspect was. From the timing/logistics, to the ceremony, to the beach dinner, to the surprise decoration in our room, it was all just so perfect. Special shoutout to a number of individuals who made our stay extra special. Principally, Pritam who was our go-to contact and felt like a brother at times, always ready and willing to assist. Mevin, one of the waiters at the main restaurant who consistently treated us like royalty and was able to identify and rectify a sticky situation effortlessly. Also to Vishal, Isaac, Natacha, Rubesh, Aum, Shaan, Sunita, and to all the staff we didn’t get a chance to meet, but were well aware of their contributions. There are certainly names I’m forgetting, but it’s a testament to how truly impressive the client experience is here. As for the rest of the experience, the rooms were immaculate, the Spa was fantastic (recommend the ‘Couples Journey’ treatment, probably the best massage I’ve received), there are tennis courts and equipment on-site if of interest, and the restaurants are all absolutely delicious, if slightly pricey. The selection of daily activities complimentary to guests are also a great touch and kept us well entertained throughout. This really and truly was one of the greatest stays we’ve had, and we couldn’t help but feel sad when our time came to an end. We wholeheartedly recommend this resort and graciously thank every staff member for their impeccable hospitality towards us. If we ever return to Mauritius there is no doubt where we will be staying. A truly unforgettable few days here which we will treasure forever. Thank you again to everyone involved.
