Beautiful beaches, poor hygiene and service issues.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

This was our second time staying at this resort, and unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations. Firstly, the quality of the food significantly declined compared to last year. The juices were tasteless, most of the fruit was unripe (except for the papaya), and the fish and chicken were dry and bland. Worst of all, four out of seven people in our group, including my 10-year-old son and my parents, fell ill with a stomach infection. A friend who visited the resort later also experienced similar symptoms. We returned to Canada a few days ago, and my son is still not fully recovered. I believe the infection spread due to the lack of hygiene in the buffet area. Flies were everywhere, landing on the food in trays and on plates at the tables. Birds were also flying in and eating from the plates. Many plates were not cleaned properly and had food residue on them. I was told that leftovers from the previous day were served again, which is unacceptable. Although I took extra precautions and ate only what I considered safe, children and the elderly are particularly vulnerable as their immune systems are weaker. One time I was getting really frustrated with the flies swarming over our table, one of the waiters found it amusing and asked if there were no flies in Canada. The two a la carte restaurants (Japanese and Gourmet) were decent, but we could only dine at each once. Additionally, children under 12 were not allowed in the Gourmet restaurant, which was disappointing. Another issue was the mosquitoes. Despite using PiActive bug repellent and BuzzPatch stickers, we still got many mosquito bites. It's possible the repellents helped somewhat, but the bites were still a major annoyance. Room service was inconsistent, despite leaving tips. Sometimes they forgot to change the towels, and they almost never washed the cups. Our friends had a broken A/C in their room, and it was never fixed during their stay. Overall, it felt like the staff, except for the entertainment team and theater performers, were tired of dealing with tourists. The entertainment team never showed up at our end of the beach. The one redeeming feature of this trip was the beach. Cuba has amazing beaches with warm, crystal-clear water and almost no waves, and Iberostar's beach is one of the best in Varadero. We also enjoyed a trip to a coral reef and a refreshing freshwater cave lake. In summary, while the beautiful beaches of Cuba remain a highlight, the decline in food quality, hygiene issues, and inconsistent service at this resort make it hard to recommend. We hope the management addresses these problems to ensure a better experience for future guests.

A wonderful hotel to spend a holiday. The staff are very welcoming and helpful, going above and beyond to assist in every way. Anita, customer services is extremely helpful. The hotel is kept very clean, the food is good, with plenty of selection. We highly recommend the hotel and look forward to returning.

3 Stars????

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

If you come to enjoy the beach and facilities ok. I would NOT recommend coming here because the FOOD is very bad, poorly prepared (there is no variety but what there is, you can not eat, especially the buffet and the pool restaurant). Drinks, the problem is the lack of product, because the cocktails are good. As for the restaurant and bar service: the only one worthwhile is the restaurant or lobby bar. The buffet (except for 5 people who know what they are doing), the rest is terrible. Normal rooms, the plus is the air conditioning and refrigerator, and the cleaning staff is good. The friendliness of the staff and sympathy is a 10, but it is not enough to choose this place. It would reach 4 stars if the food could be eaten and there were professionals in all areas (the comments have nothing to do with reality). Recommendation: If you want to come to Cuba do not pay all inclusive. It is better to go to other hotels in Havana such as the Packard on a room only basis and go out to eat in good restaurants (with the money you will save by not eating anything in all inclusive hotels), and be able to visit the whole city.
