Melia Las Antillas

We just had a one week break at this resort and while it is not Blau or Royalton we had a very nice vacation. We exceeded 15 trips to Cuba, so we have an average understanding of what to expect but I have to admit I’m not hesitant to recommend it if your standards are reasonable. Some very nice and friendly people have to be mentioned because they have made our vacation special: Raul, Martha and Elio among many others. I know it’s not Mexico or Jamaica but the beaches leaves both in the dust.

The grounds and facilities are very tired. Everywhere you look requires a reno or refresh. Please see Finding Fish's (YouTube) reviews - he nails it perfectly. The beach is beautiful and stunning. The pool size and layout is also fantastic; however, it is missing tiles and there was green algae along the walls. For the beach and pool - loungers were plentiful during my visit. Personal Ratings: Beach - 5/5 Pool - 4/5 Room - 3/5 Food - 2/5 Service - 2/5 Room. Outdated; however, my A/C worked, toilet flushed every time, always hot water available and my bed very comfortable. My closet safe was a keyed style and there wasn't a key available. Front Desk did not have a key for it. I had he option to switch rooms but I had other means to secure my valuables. So, I decided this wasn't a huge issue for me. Food. Food at the buffet wasn't great and maybe enjoyed two meals out of my entire stay. I got into the Romantico Restaurant one evening and that was excellent - both food and service. Special mention to the gents at the beach bar and also the afternoon BBQ cook - I believe his name is Norberto - he worked very hard to please.

The staff were amazing at this resort - especially our waiter Clemente on the patio, Gretel at the gift shop & the Lobby Bar & beach bar staff. Great drinks & quick service!! However, we were disappointed with the Buffet food - it was bland & repetitive. A pasta bar would make a huge difference at dinner time. No yoga, pool Aquafit or salsa lessons on the beach either. We would upgrade to a better resort in Varadero next time.

Originally, we were supposed to go to another resort we've been to before, but days before leaving, that resort was canceled. We substituted it with this resort. The first day were there, we didn't want to be here at all because we were disappointed at not going to our known resort. Within the next 24 hours. The staff, the resort itself, the activities, the love by everyone at the resort, won us over. For an older resort, it's extremely clean. We fell in love with this resort very fast. We left to go back home this morning after 10 days and we didn't want to leave. You could not ask for any more from anything as they all pull out all the stops for their guests, which they call family. We will definitely be back, time and time again.

I had an unforgettable week! From start to finish, everything was beyond perfect. The service was exceptional—every staff member went above and beyond to make sure all of our needs were met. I honestly couldn't have asked for anything better. The beach was simply breathtaking, with crystal-clear waters and soft, white sand stretching for miles. It was the ideal spot to relax, unwind, and soak in the beauty of nature. Overall, this experience exceeded all my expectations, and I can’t wait to return!
