Reviews for Melia Varadero

Very pleasant week, wonderful memories

We are a retired couple and have been to Cuba many times (10-12) at all the Cayos, Holguin, on the Caribbean sea side but the first time in Varadero. The Melia Varadero exceeded our expectations. WE upgraded to the Level for the first time and we highly recommend it. It was worth every penny. The rooms were comfortable, nice and clean. The linen was changed every day, The towels twice a day. Our maid was wonderful. She was so creative with the towels, it was amazing. Her name is Yusleidys. She would go out of her way very discreetly to accommodate our needs. The Level guests were on the 5th floor and we had our Bar with delicious snacks and drinks and very friendly staff. The Team Level was the best I've seen. Thanks to Orlaida, Yanet, Leacnet who met us, Arley, Idania and Damaris, Wanted to mention all of them. The beach was lovely and the calm, warm, blue, turquoise water was so inviting we never swam so much. But we would recommend walking for about 30 meters to the next resort were the beach was even better. We had our own place at the beach for the Level. No worries that you wouldn't find a place in the shade. We didn't even have to go to the buffet because the a la carte restaurant TEX MEX would serve breakfast and lunch to the Level guests with an ocean view. Raul was very good in suggesting a meal and serving it efficiently. The whole team there was excellent especially in the morning. The juices were made from real fruit. But I wonder there were no fresh vegetables. They were all pickled. No fresh tomatoes or cucumbers, Why? I think I mentioned everything. If I forgot something you can ask a question and I'll gladly respond. They appreciate US $ for tips. Useful info. I will gladly return to this resort and highly recommend. We didn't even have to go to the buffet were there were line ups sometimes for omelets in the morning. We had them served to us. I consider that for Cuba the food was good. We know they have problems with the choice of food in some resorts. That's it. An excellent week in Melia Varadero.

Cuba is still wonderful

Review for Melia Varadero My husband and I recently went to Melia Varadero. We were worried about the food availability this time more than the food quality. I must say that the worry was completely unnecessary. We arrived at the resort at about 6:00 their time. We had upgraded to The Level. Which meant that the receptionist from that floor had to come down to us and take us up to the 5 floor reception. The check in was quick and efficient and very pleasant. They gave us a quick tour of the main floor and The Level floor and our room. Room: I did make the decision to upgrade to The Level but didn’t chose to pay extra to get an ocean view room – but although slighty upstructed we got an ocean view, which was a nice surprise. I thought the rooms were pleasant but not fancy. The room had a fancy coffee maker, espresso or similar which I only used to make hot water for the coffee mixes I bring with me. The TV was a high quality Samsung with a weird remote that we only figures out on the 4th day! The room had a safe, the 4 wouldn’t work so we had to change the code and it changed way too easy making we wonder what the safety really was. The beds (two big singles – for some reason) were quite comfortable, with good pillow. No complaints about the beds at all. Simple furniture that was falling apart just a bit. Internet was included with rooms on the Level and I could get Netflix and Youtube pretty easily. Food: They always say don’t go to Cuba for the food. Each time I would say this is slightly true. I only put two things in my mouth at the buffet that I then put in a napkin. The vegetables were reasonably plenty but were obviously previously frozen so they were a disappointment. Anything they stewed was delicious and tender. If you were okay with lining up they had a few egg stations at breakfast, and grill stations at dinner. The servings at the ala carte were adequate, and did not require a trip through the buffet to get full. They out did themselves with the deserts. Great icecream, and great cakes. Make sure to save room in your stomach for the deserts. Drinks The best drinks were at the Level Bar. They made delicious pina colodas and mojitos. The pool and beach bar both tended to serve pre mixed or quick pour drinks. Orange juice might have been sunny d? Resort - Outside Nice looking resort, nice gardens, adequate sized pool, clean. Lots of chairs with comfortable seats, had hammocks to use if you wanted. Beach was clean, rocky at one end. We went for some nice long walks down the beach. No annoying beach vendors bugging you. There was shaded areas – which was appreciated Resort – Inside There were three main elevators, glass with views of the lobby with plant tendrils, very pretty. My favorite elevator would tell you what floor you were on and where it was heading in this adorable british accent. Loved it. There was two or three other elevators, and maybe one would break down, but generally no trouble ever finding a working one. There was a lot of complaints in other resorts about non working elevators, so being on the top floor we were glad the elevators always work Entertainment Pros – good dancers, singers that were definitely lip-syncing. Nice musical entertainment in lobby bar. The show started at 945 even later than usual, so honestly we didn’t watch the show more than twice. Service. The best way to get the best service is to sit in the same section each time, that way your waitress remembers you. The waitresses were very sweet and sometimes quite funny. We generally left a single American dollar per meal. The bartenders at the pool bar and beach bar were busy but always served the drinks with a smile, regardless of how often they were tipped. The Level bar would bring the drinks to your table. The Level bar made the best lattes and even decorated the foams with love and cuba! One of the waitresses in the Level noticed I did a very bad job French braiding my hair so she redid them. I tipped her in appreciated. The maids cleaned the room well, always decorated the rooms with towel creatures. We had a night cleaner and a day cleaner..

Fantastic week in Cuba

My wife and I spent a week at the Melia Varadero from May 2 to May 9 and had a great stay. Overall a wonderful stay. The hotel is older but still in excellent condition. The interior is beautiful with the fountain and hanging gardens... one of the nicest interiors I've ever seen. The grounds were very well laid out with tons of trees and flowers everywhere. The hotel had many great spots to sit and relax. Every where you looked was a fantastic photo opportunity. Pool and ocean were amazing. The hotel is the right size - middle of the road with an intimate feel. Food - plenty with no shortages and we could always find more than enough to eat. Staff - a few standouts. Nadia in the main dining room was great. She took care of us daily and made sure we always felt welcome and had great service. Aldo Santamaria of the Animation team went above and beyond as well. We met him playing volleyball in the pool and he helped make our week memorable. Our afternoons around the pool were great thanks to him. He is very good at what he does. The staff at the lobby bar were also great, always willing to chat. The room was dated but they are slowly renovating. The mattress was the most comfortable I've ever had on a vacation down south. We would return to this resort.

My husband and I went to Melia Varadero for a week in May 24. We had a beautiful time. The grounds of the property are breathtaking; the beach lovely. Everything is very well taken care of. We were very pleased. We've heard a lot about food shortages, but there was a lot of food, no one would go hungry. A special shout out to Nadia in the buffet, who looked out for us and made sure we had a table and fresh drinks. Our room was a little dated, but the bed was very comfortable. We really appreciated Aldo Santa Maria n the animation team. We met him playing water volleyball in the pool and he was so kind to us. He looked out for us all week. Thank you Aldo for the special care; you went out of your way for us. We definitely would go back to this resort.
