It is an impressive building in a perfect central location. Reception was friendly and efficient. The room on the 4th floor was large and well presented. The only real issue was the temperature, which was set at 30c! All attempts to turn it down failed, so the only option was to turn it off and to keep turning it off. The entire electrical system in the room was strange, even the lights. Try going to the bathroom in total darkness!! We called down for someone but the ‘helpful’ guy who turned up said that if we were too warm to open the window was no help at all! The single duvets (decken) were very flimsy and fell off. Bedding needs improving. A kettle would also help to make the room more usable. In general, the room and the hotel felt a little faded and in need of an update. Breakfast was good, although service was disorganised. The lobby cafe was useful for drinks and coffee etc, the main bar on the 1st floor was barely open while we were there. Service was stilted and slightly distant, but maybe that is cultural. The main reason we would not return is that the hotel is simply not offering value for money: a fairly standard room without a balcony, overlooking a back street, with no functional heating and cooling is not worth 2000 euros for 3 days!

I typically don't write reviews but wanted to share our experience at the Grand Hotel. We are Hilton members and usually stay at Flagged hotels however Vienna seemed like an opportunity to soak in some of the grandeur of this historical city. I am sure The Grand Hotel was magnificent in its' day but sadly, it has not been kept up and the age of the property is evident. Especially in Room 619 where we stayed. There was mould in the bathroom shower, so much so that the towels in the bathroom smelled like mould and I asked on two separate occasions for fresh towels because of the smell and asked if housekeeping could please clean the shower. I was always brought clean towels very quickly but no one ever removed the mould. Over our 5 night stay it only grew more. Also, the heat / air control in our room was original to the building and we were unable to manage the room temperature. We were either too cold or too hot. I again, asked for extra duvets which were provided but Reception simply advised, the heat takes time be patient. Upon check out I shared my concerns when asked and upon checking with his supervisor the agent offered me a $25 credit for the movie we had watched. Our final bill was over $4,000.00 CAD so I feel as though Management did not care of our experience as we are tourists and most likely won't be back. We will be back in Vienna because it is a magnificent city and we loved everything about it however we will stay at the Hilton next time.

I was booked at this hotel as part of a post-cruise land package with a river cruise company. The location of the property is definitely top-notch for sightseeing. It's walking distance to all of the major sites in the old town area, and up to the Rathaus. Very convenient, for sure. The hotel itself seems like a Grand Dame on the outside, but on the inside it's maybe a little bit on the shabbier side of "shabby chic", and had aspects that really needed updating or fixed. I had what I think was probably a standard room with a Queen bed, overlooking a rather drabby interior courtyard - which I was okay with, purely to eliminate street noise. When I walked into the room, it appeared as if maybe Mozart himself had decorated the room, with a chandelier, a brocade chair, a gold-topped desk, and a horrid sheer curtain. The bathroom had gaudy brass fixtures, a bidet that didn't work, and a bathtub/shower combo that's a safety nightmare. That was the first of the issues with this room. I absolutely detest bathtubs like that, as getting in and out of the narrow tub with high walls, with wet feet, is extremely dangerous. Especially as there were no hand-holds or grab-bars to assist with stepping in/out of the bathtub. Add to that the ridiculous half-glass that allows water all over the floor while letting cold air in, and it makes for an unpleasant shower, and an insurance claim waiting to happen. Also, the shower head sprayed terribly, and the bathtub didn't drain. It was yucky. Why hotels don't just offer a shower stall is beyond me - it would be much safer, take less room, and provide a more comfortable shower experience. The other issue with the room is that it was TOO HOT. Several others in my group had similar issues, some even asking to move to a new room. Even with the heat turned completely off, it's still hot in the room because there's no way to turn OFF the heated floor in the bathroom. You can open a window, but that's about the only relief. The WiFi worked pretty well, but I would've liked to have had some power outlets or USB ports next to the bed. I found two USB ports over the desk, and dug around and found an outlet behind the bed. Would be nice if they were more conveniently located. The breakfast buffet was fairly extensive, filled with a variety of cold items. There were some hot items that could be ordered from a server. Unfortunately, they never came back to me after I ordered a latte, so I never got to order an omelet, and just made do with cold items. Overall, this hotel was great for the location, but I wouldn't stay here again due to the heating issues in the room, and the completely unsafe shower/bathtub situation.

It looks grand, but mostly that is a facade. Our room was terribly clean (at one point I asked the maid if I could borrow the mop to clean the bathroom floor as my feet were sticking to it.) The heat was very, very noisy and not very efficient. Our room looked at a courtyard with blocky walls in the back of the building. I had a sandwich in the mainfloor dining room that cost almost 50 euros and took almost an hour to be served. However, the breakfasts were very good. The worst part was when we asked our concierge which bus station (it was all written in German) we needed a cab to (we showed him the digital ticket) and he sent the driver (and us) to the wrong station. We missed the bus (the only one going that day) and had to completely re-arrange our travel plans. It was an expensive hassle.
