Perched on a lush, tropical hillside with unobstructed views of three Hawaiian islands, Hotel Wailea is an adults-only luxury boutique hotel and Maui's only Relais & Châteaux. Designed for couples, the hotel rests on 15 acres of your own private playground. Start your day together with morning yoga practice beside a waterfall, lounge in the laid back poolside cabanas, explore winding pathways through tropical gardens and orchards, and then relax in the intimacy of your expansive suite with its white oak floors and sustainably-harvested Ohia wood furniture. Our culinary approach is equally committed to Maui, with ingredients sourced locally or grown in the hotel’s very own kitchen garden and orchard.

Located in beautiful Wailea the suites are spacious and welcoming and face the ocean. A large lanai allows for enjoying the outdoors. Each suite has special amenities, and the hotel staff makes every effort to accommodate one’s requests. The suites are serviced every day and always well maintained.

On the good side, large bedrooms/suites, quiet as it is adults only, the pool sunbeds were easily available and there was friendly service. On the less good, average food that was nothing special, breakfast and dinner were both. lukewarm and slow to arrive, the attention to detail is lacking for a hotel changing c$2000 a night, the pool team were more interested in chatting to each other than serving customers, we had problems with the tech and phone connections in our room, no clear and comfortable bar area to relax in and communication was mixed between the valet and reception and with our travel agent. We are lucky enough to stay in great hotels around the world and this could be one of them but it lacks the professional and standards to make it so.

We returned to Hotel Wailea again to celebrate our anniversary. It was incredibly special as we also spent our honeymoon here. This property has become our favourite place on earth, and we visit Maui almost every year. This latest visit only reinforced why. From the moment you arrive, there’s a sense of peace and tranquility. It’s not just the stunning sunset and setting, but also the thoughtfulness woven into every detail. We were greeted with champagne on arrival, and throughout our stay, we enjoyed special touches - from a floral design class to a thoughtful gift bag with treats on a rainy day. We felt genuinely cared for. A heartfelt thank you to the entire Hotel Wailea team for making our stay so special again. You’ve built something magical here. We can’t wait to return.

I think this was our tenth time there. Nice room, staff was friendly and helpful. Poor attendant, forgot her name, she’s from Paris, and she was great. No James working the pool bar anymore, and you can tell the difference, just a rotating mix of some non aloha dudes. The only bad part: The cabana situation. Used to be first come, first serve. Now I don’t slide down at 7:00am and lay a magazine down to hold a spot, no one should. But now they put up a “reserved” sign. For the first couple of days, three quarters of them sat vacant. I finally asked about them to the staff, $250, which feels like nickel and dime process. HW needs to come up with a better process. It’s not their style to be this non hospitable ATM~ you need one again We’ll be back

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Wailea over the MLK weekend to celebrate our anniversary. This was our fourth visit to Maui, and our first time staying here. We were thoroughly impressed and would absolutely return. Location The hotel is located in Wailea, perched on a hilltop about a mile inland from the beach. While it’s not beachfront, the elevated setting offers beautiful views of the Pacific and a much quieter, more private atmosphere than the large resorts along the shore. The complimentary shuttle service is excellent — quick, reliable, and able to drop you off anywhere in Wailea. We never waited more than a few minutes. Room All accommodations are one-bedroom suites, which immediately sets this property apart. We booked a garden-view suite and loved the peaceful outlook over a grassy meadow. The suite was spacious, well appointed, and very comfortable. A nice and increasingly rare touch: the minibar snacks and drinks were complimentary. Ambience The overall ambience can be summed up in three words: tranquil tropical oasis. Lush landscaping, open green spaces, and subtle evening lighting create a serene and romantic environment. As an adults-only resort, it feels calm and unhurried — perfect for couples or solo travelers seeking a quieter experience. Dining Hotel Wailea has two dining venues. Birdcage is a bar and Japanese restaurant with stunning sunset views over the ocean. The Restaurant offers à la carte breakfast and a fine-dining tasting menu for dinner. We had breakfast there twice and were very impressed by both the quality of the food and the service. The ricotta pancakes were a standout. Service Service throughout our stay was outstanding — attentive, warm, and well balanced. The staff were always available when needed but never intrusive. For our anniversary, they surprised us with floral decorations and a handwritten card signed by the staff, which was a genuinely thoughtful and memorable gesture. Beach Access Although the hotel is not beachfront, guests can be shuttled to any of Wailea’s beaches, with beach chairs, towels, and umbrellas provided. You do need to carry the chairs and umbrella from the parking area to the beach. The hotel also offers a full-service beach picnic experience, which must be reserved in advance. Final Thoughts Hotel Wailea is a peaceful, refined alternative to Maui’s large beachfront resorts. It’s ideal for a romantic getaway or a relaxing adults-only escape. If you value privacy, excellent service, and a calm atmosphere, this property is truly special. Highly recommended.
