Wanted a special hotel experience for my wife's 60th birthday. We were not disappointed and the hay Adams exceeded our expectations

I can't say enough about the Hay Adams. If I win the lottery, I will move into their nicest suite and die a very happy person, living there for the rest of my life. I absolutely love this hotel! It connects me to nostalgia, to a time when people cared, to a staff that treats you like family, and to cuisine that is absolute perfection.

I recently visited The Hay-Adams, located across from the White House, and had a disappointing experience that I feel compelled to share. Upon entering the lobby, I was looking for the restroom. Both doormen looked at me as if I didn’t belong there and didn’t offer any assistance. When I asked politely, “Could you please guide me to the ladies’ room?” one of them replied, “We don’t have one.” Thinking it might be a wording issue, I rephrased my question and said “restroom” instead. He repeated, “We don’t have,” and then added, “We have, but only for guests.” I was honestly shocked. I don’t know in which era this mindset belongs, but being treated this way at a hotel that calls itself luxury is unacceptable. I’m currently staying at another five-star property just 15 minutes away, and when I later entered a different luxury hotel to use their restroom, I was met with genuine hospitality and kindness — the kind of treatment that defines true luxury. As a hotelier myself and an avid traveler, I’ve stayed at and visited properties around the world. I’ve never experienced such an unwelcoming attitude. Hospitality is not just about grand décor or a famous address — it’s about how you treat people. Luxury starts with respect, and sadly, this experience was far from it.

The accommodations, the restaurant, and the location were once again still the best in a city with many excellent venues, but The Hay-Adams continues to be our favorite!
