To step inside our soaring entrance is to become a part of the past, present, and future of the Penn Quarter. Constructed in 1891 as a headquarters for Riggs National Bank, the landmark example of Richardson Romanesque architecture was known as the Bank of Presidents, and resides at the intersection not just of 9th and F Street, but of American history.

I stayed at the Riggs for two nights in August 2025. The rate was U$D299 per night although that included a room upgrade and breakfast. I stayed here two years ago with my children and it continues to impress. If you need to stay in Washington then, frankly, I can't understand why you wouldn't stay here. With rooms starting at just over $200 per night smack-dab in the heart of the nation's capital, there is plenty to like about the Riggs. Its most appealing feature may be the price but its location isn't far behind. The Riggs is a five-minute walk from the Mall and 10 minutes from the White House. Staff are unfailingly helpful (special mention to the door team who whisk away your car and ensure your bags effortlessly glide up to your room, all in no time and with a genuine smile). The rooms themselves are spacious and quiet, with comfy beds, fine linen, Debaser toiletries, and thoughtful touches including a well-stocked mini-bar (designed to look like a safe), robes, slippers and other benefits of a hotel costing much, much more. Breakfast is a la carte and served in the former banking hall with soaring Corinthian columns and a fine marble bar. By night the space serves as the excellent and fairly-priced dining room with a short yet thoughtful wine list. Silver Lyan, the cocktail bar desigend by mixology guru Ryan Chetiyawardana a.k.a. "Mr. Lyan". It's not a patch on the Edinburgh original but a lovely spot for a pre-dinner drink. And NYC's Dead Rabbit is shortly setting up camp two doors down. In summary, Riggs may not be the wishest hotel in Washington but it unquestionably offers exceptional value.

5 Star Property at a 3 star price. This is my new go to hotel when in DC. It’s close to everything. What a great experience. From the moment my car arrived I felt pampered. Garnett, the Bell Captain, made my whole experience. He welcomed me, checked my bags, reminded me to take a picture of my ticket, had my bags in my room when I checked in later that evening. It doesn’t matter what else happens while I’m there- the tone is set and I’m a fan! My room was nicely appointed (even had slippers set out for me). The bedding was luxurious and the bathroom though small was gorgeous with stone tile and great lighting. Amazing service. I still can’t believe it was so inexpensive. The management team is all about guest experience and it shows.

This restaurant was wonderful! Amazing and friendly staff who seated us immediately. I asked for de-cafe iced and the waiter suggested a de-cafe latte which was great. Food was delightful, we chose breakfast items for brunch. Turkey bacon was ok, not as crispy as I thought it would be but pancakes were delicious with plenty of butter and syrup. The waiter was easy going and checked on us just the right amount of times. Would definitely return here!

Riggs, count your days till I return… and bring friends and family! Vincent was the first smiling face to greet me, warmly wishing my room was ready. I think he saw my coast-to-coast travel exhaustion and sent all the good vibes. Eleanna worked her magic to find me a room before check-in and upgraded me, thanks to my platinum privileges. This one accommodation elevated the tone for my entire time in DC. Walking into Riggs is like stepping into a beautiful time capsule, those grand columns and the elegant ambiance instantly sets an upscale mood. My room was inviting and luxurious, shower was a treat, and the king bed was so comfy. At the bar, the service was phenomenal, constant water refills, a perfectly crafted mocha latte, and fresh, juicy mussels drenched in the most delectable sauce. Hands down the best brussel sprouts I’ve ever had. On another occasion I enjoyed the goat cheese tart and the crab cake. The tart was wonderfully creamy and flaky, with a perfect tangy bite, while the crab cake was crispy on the outside and full of fresh, flavorful crab. A simple yet memorable part of my dining experience! Breakfast was a graceful, attentive affair. The chef delivered blueberry pancakes with a side of fresh fruit and a blended drink that made such an impression I had to have the same breakfast twice. I highly recommend the Riggs Café just to experience this delightful menu again. Plus, the restaurant is a visual fantasy from every angle. Eraste, my server, was my last lasting impression, but honestly, every staff member was helpful, positive, and attentive. The only finger I lifted all weekend was to press the elevator button. My stay felt like one big invitation to relax, eat well, and be content. I can’t wait to come back.

We just spend a week of family vacation biking around Washington DC, the Riggs has an excellent location but an even better service! We arrived early by train from NYC, so it started with a very friendly check in where they gave us our room so early without even asking for it, because it was available and convenient for us. I wasn’t planning for it and it really helped us took a better advantage of our first day. And the bell team lead by Mr DC (a.k.a. Garnett Coad) really made sure that our twins felt at home and helped us with our bikes the whole week. Thank you guys!!
