To step inside our soaring entrance is to become a part of the past, present, and future of the Penn Quarter. Constructed in 1891 as a headquarters for Riggs National Bank, the landmark example of Richardson Romanesque architecture was known as the Bank of Presidents, and resides at the intersection not just of 9th and F Street, but of American history.

I really enjoyed my time at the Riggs Hotel. The hotel itself is really pretty. It used to be a bank (as I am told), and they kept some of the bank structures and added a few nods to its past as a bank. The décor is interesting, and the furniture is both beautiful and comfortable. The rooms were spacious and very nice-looking. Each room has 2 complimentary bottles of water (in glass!), which is unfortunately unique in hotels now. Also, they have a cute tote bag and slippers waiting for guests in the rooms. The staff members are wonderful and super helpful! I had an issue because I forgot my toothbrush. Although they were out at the front desk, someone brought 2 of them up to my room. The concierge was also kind and knowledgeable. He worked hard to make people feel special and taken care as did all of the other staff. Although I didn't leave the hotel due to our symposium, I think it is in a great place for sightseeing. Apparently, there is a good restaurant across the street – the Smith – that folks enjoyed. I (with colleagues) had some food in the hotel’s restaurant, Café Riggs. The service was great! Someone else paid for my food and beverages (yay!), so I didn’t get the server’s name, but he was wonderful and patient as we said, No more drinks or fries…okay! 1 more round! I also had the kale salad with salmon. The salad itself was delicious, but the salmon was not seasoned. Had it been seasoned, it would have been great because of how well cooked it was. Overall, when I am in DC, I will definitely stay here. In fact, I recommended the Riggs to 3 people before I even checked out!

At the time we booked the Riggs Washington DC, it was more of a convenience to the arena, but the experience ended up being exceptional and such a fun weekend for our family. The restaurants were very accommodating to me, my spouse, and our twin 4 year-olds, and ensured we had a comfortable stay. Rooms were very clean, well stocked and there was clear attention to detail. Logistically, parking was easy and the walk to the arena was a breeze. It's also centrally located downtown, so it's very easy to access metro or walk to DC destinations.

Title: Beautiful historic building, but the room needs better care We recently stayed at Riggs Washington DC and overall our stay was good. I usually choose my hotels through Mr & Mrs Smith, and this property attracted us because it is located in a beautiful historic building that used to be a bank. The common areas reflect that history very nicely. A special hooray to the front-desk Dutch intern from Hotel Management School Maastricht — friendly, professional, and a real pleasure to interact with. However, the room itself was in need of some love. The wallpaper was starting to peel just behind the bed, which is the focal point of the room. The bathroom was not very comfortable and felt quite tight. We understand that we booked one of the lower-priced room categories, so we imagine there are more spacious rooms available. What disappointed me the most was the cleanliness. The room was not impeccably clean—there was visible dust and dirt in the corners, which is something I do not expect at this level of hotel. The location and the building are excellent, and with better room maintenance and more attention to cleaning, this could be a much stronger experience.

fabulous location on F-street that has just the right amount of kitch to pay homage to the old bank building without being like a theme hotel. Hotels like this one are the reason people love 4-star boutique hotels. Surprisingly quiet for the location, although the neon lights from the building across the street make you grateful for the blackout blinds. Bag storage with the concierge either before checkin time or after checkout was easy, quick, and a lifesaver for work meetings during the day.
