Reviews for Riggs Washington DC

Beautiful hotel, average experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Had a nice experience with most front desk personnel. Everyone of the other staff (cleaning, bellmen, etc) were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Only issues were really with the room itself. First issue is there was no way to get cold or even cool water from the shower or sink, so when you were thirsty you had to drink 90 plus degree water. There were no water bottles provided in the room (not sure if there were supposed to be) and there were none for sale in the mini fridge. This wasn’t a big issue since we could stock up on water at a drug store. By the second day of our three night stay, it became clear that our AC wasn’t going to get any cooler than 73 degrees, but that wasn’t a huge issue since it was still comfortable. We had already asked to switch rooms once because we were originally 15 feet from the elevators and it was particularly noisy even with the door shut, so we didn’t want to be a pain and ask for a second room change. Our third night in the hotel the AC was completely broken and the thermostat read 78 degrees (I even took a picture). My friend and I both spent most of the night awake and sweating. The icy cold contrast in temperature when we got up and went into the hallway was so startling that we both burst out laughing. When we went down to tell the front desk at check out, the girl was very polite but all she said was “well did you tell anyone so we could fix it?” No, we didn’t want either 1) to have people working for potentially hours inside our room or 2) to have to pack up all of our things and relocate to a third room when at that point we just wanted to be asleep. She didn’t offer to accommodate us in any way, and I thought maybe we’d get an email apologizing for the inconvenience but so far, nothing. I was very surprised that, at a hotel of this caliber, you could have no AC for half your stay and there would be zero attempt on the hotel’s part to make it right.

Great Location

The hotel has a great location if you’re interested in seeing the monuments, White House and museums. Downside for me was the hotel restaurants menu choices, quality of food and the room service.

Convenient and friendly

Superb location for all the downtown attractions with friendly staff. Also just a couple of blocks away from the Metro. We booked a deluxe room with a view onto F Street. It was very comfortable with two deep chairs and a great bed. Whoever cleans the rooms does a fantastic job. We were on the 9th floor and were disappointed after booking a quiet room to be disturbed by music coming from the rooftop bar (on the Saturday night). Given the rooms aren’t cheap we thought this was out of character with the image. The duty manager was very helpful. The gym is well equipped with cardio and weights. There’s air conditioning and a fridge with cold water and towels. We used the cafe. Very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. Watch out for rooms with connecting doors. We didn’t have one but I know they have them (or ask for them if you’re with family) All in all, we had a good time. Perhaps the music on the rooftop doesn’t sit with the advertising image for us.

Perfect stay

The nicest staff I've encountered at a hotel in DC. After a very long day the front desk staff noticed my stress levels all over my face and were quick to be kind and hilarious. Turned my day around very quickly! Loved this place. Perfect amenities, gym, rooms. I'll be staying here for all business in DC going forward.

Great location, staff wonderful and very attentive and restaurants are good.

Only complaint is the rooms need to be cleaned with an EXTRA level of detail at these rates. BUT, great service, great location, wonderful staff and restaurants are good.
