Yours Truly DC Vignette Collection

Such a cool funky hotel and usually always my favorite place to stay in DC. Rooms are divine, location is key, and it is great value for the price! This time, however, I have to delete one star from my rating for one specific reason: I wish that the lobby wasn't so wide open to the public and the Call Your Mother crowd. Things have really changed since the last time I visited!!! The whole lobby smells like pickles and sandwiches and sweaty humans all the time. There are so many people there, sitting at the bar, using up all the tables and lounge chairs and many are just deli customers. No place for hotel guests to sit and man, it is so noisy! I don't hear the awesome music---instead, all I heard were loud people talking over each other's voices, chomping on their food, talking out loud and loudly on their phones with ear buds in and no sense of noise awareness. The lobby has turned into a Starbucks---non-hotel residents who just use it to study, use their laptops, have lunch from various area eateries and just bring it and sit in the lobby to eat. It just leaves little room for guests staying at the hotel to sit and hang out. The cool quietude and vinyl vibes of the lobby is now gone, replaced with noisy diners and masses of humans. The lobby actually looks dumpy and less clean. The furniture is stained with crumbs on the cushions, as well as being off putting with the wafts of mixed and unpleasant smells. I would suggest closing the entrance into Call Your Mother deli from the lobby, and having the deli create more indoor and covered seating for their customers. Then have a podium close to the doors entering into the lobby for people to check in and give their room number. The lobby with its limited space should really be reserved for hotel guests and those dining at Merci only. I don't mean to sound vicious, but I want to be honest and keep my favorite hotel honest and true to its original vibe too!

When I arrived in Washington, the Airbnb where I had to stay was closed. The code in the door was incorrect, and it was 1:30am. Because of that, I had to walk around town to find a place to stay in the middle of the night. After so many denials, I reached this hotel when a gentleman named Solomon opened the doors for me at 2:30am. Stating, “we don't have a room available, but let me see what I can do”. At that moment, he found a room for me to stay in and treated me with such professionalism and respect that the whole experience felt like a great relief and an example of true hospitality. This hotel exceeded my expectations and then some . The staff was very attentive and polite, and the ambiance of the hotel was warm and inviting . This hotel is in a central location around a lot of amenities and restaurants that are all walkable distances . If you are looking to stay anywhere in DC, this is the perfect place .
