Reviews for Cape Lodge

Classy, intimate and understated excellence

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We stayed at Cape Lodge for 2 nights in a Lake view suite for our 35th wedding anniversary and enjoyed every minute of our stay. Cape Lodge has been on our bucket list for many years and we were not disappointed. All the personalised touches, outstanding customer service from reception and restaurant staff made our stay feel so welcoming and special. Our well appointed and spacious room was extremely private over looking one of the lakes on the property which made for an extremely relaxing stay. The only suggestion we can make is for the Foxtel sport channels to be in HD as it wasn't as sharp as the awesome massive TV could show. The food at the restaurant was delicious, breakfast , high tea and dinner were top class and the restaurant is beautiful in its outlook and has a classy and intimate feeling inside. Cape Lodge is the perfect place for any special occasion getaway. We cant wait to go back and hope the next stay isn’t too far away.

Tired and in need of complete refurbishment.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Cape Lodge appears in The Luxury Lodges of Australia compilation. It has no place there until the accommodation has undergone a major refurbishment. The setting is beautiful and the staff delightful but, I think, are embarrassed by what they have to offer guests. I will review the restaurant separately. Back to the room. Tired with cheap fitted furniture. Several light bulbs not working and not replaced. Ill fitting roller blinds that allowed the very bright car park light directly into my face when in bed. Fridge door didn’t close properly. Although clean the room needed a deep clean. Cheap motel chic. I tried sleeping with a face mask on 2nd night but enough was enough. Fran, one of the lovely long suffering staff, helped by letting us sleep in another, much larger suite overlooking the lake. Better night’s sleep but pleased to leave. The last night accommodation charge was removed from the bill.

A Classic Example of its Kind

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 months ago

We stayed for 3 nights in a Lake View Suite. Check in was friendly and efficient, and the charm of the architecture and the grounds of the estate were immediately evident. A buggy took us and our luggage to the suite a couple of hundred metres from the main building; our room was up a steep flight of stairs. The room itself was delightful; super-king bed, good linens and towels, comfortable sitting area, large bathroom with walk-in rain shower, jacuzzi, freshly ground coffee and cafetière, fridge, and a very pleasant veranda with a table and chairs. We saw no evidence of furnishing tiredness reported by other reviewers but it is true to say that the room was very comfortable rather than spectacular. Which of course is exactly right for a lodge hotel of this type. Breakfast was excellent, part buffet and part cooked to order. We had opted for the Dinner Bed & Breakfast option and the dinner menu was very short and didn’t change for the three days, which could have been limiting especially for vegetarians, but the chef offered us options on the second and third evenings which perfectly resolved the problem. The quality of the food was excellent and the restaurant overlooks the lake and enjoys spectacular sunsets when the sky is clear. The hotel is situated deep in the country and it is difficult to conceive how you could make the most of the attractions of the area - rugged coasts, caves, quaint little towns - without a car. In summary Cape Lodge is a classical example of the country lodge hotel, and it does its job very well.

Beautiful location and atmosphere.

Beautiful room and location. Lovely professional restaurant staff. Food excellent. Pool area quiet and stunning. Gym could have better machines - there's only two and they are not user friendly! Tristan the Manager is superb at what he does and has a great pride in his hotel for good reason.

Could not fault a single thing.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 months ago

Thank you to Tristan and the team at Cape Lodge. What a wonderful experience. The rooms and beds were fantastic. The facilities faultless, the staff and restaurant were excellent. Lots of little things done very well - the tea and coffee in the gust lounge, fridge full of complementary drinks at the pool, welcome drinks at the restaurant and very helpful staff. Fully booked on Sat and Sun but it is so well laid out, we felt like the only guests! Put this on your wish list.
