Reviews for Alden Suite Hotel Splügenschloss Zurich

Ausgezeichnet! We Would Go Back in a Heartbeat.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

We had a fantastic stay at the Alden Suites. We loved our suite. It had oodles of storage, a large bedroom, a very large and a small bathroom, and a separate seating area with a dining table. Internet services was fast and reliable. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the service by hotel staff was exemplary. The only issues we had with our room were: it was a little too warm at night for my wife (which is a chronic issue ... even at home), and the knob that controlled the shower temperature was a bit finicky. Tiny adjustments needed to be made to keep you from getting scalded or hit with ice cold water. We eventually figured it out, but it is a bit of a process. Older reviews will mention that there is only breakfast and that it was just OK. The Alden has re-opened their restaurant recently after being closed due to Covid. It is now under the guidance of Executive Chef Martin, who is working hard to make a name for the hotel and its food. We were not disappointed. We had made reservations at a couple of other places so we only ate dinner there once. However, after being out traveling all day, we returned late one night and just HAD to have another one of his deserts: a strawberry-rhubarb compote with vanilla ice cream. Delicious! The breakfast menu is extensive. In addition to the breakfast bar that has fresh croissants, juices, vegetables and pastries, there is a great menu to order from which provides choices from traditional Swiss muesli, to scrambled eggs, bacon, eggs benedict, eggs Florentine, and more. I have to mention the server we had for breakfast each day. Hadia comes to the job with a smile on her face, a cheerful "good morning" and a desire to provide whatever will make you happy if it's available. She was such a delight, we wanted to take her home. When we did eat dinner there, a member of our party needed to eat gluten free. After telling the dining room manager this, it wasn't long before Chef Martin was at our table, helping our friend work through the menu and describe which meals were already gluten free and which could possibly be adapted. His suggestions were greatly appreciated. The entire staff is awesome and can't do enough for you. We would go back in a heartbeat.

Excellent Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Excellent hotel and service. Old school, proper hotel, absolutely nothing to complain about, five stars. Room perfect, food great and staff brilliant. Bed super comfy and everything clean and immaculate, central location too. We stayed on business 4 rooms and all loved it. Good value for five star in Zurich. Highly recommend.

Your home away from home

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 months ago

Stayed at this hotel twice. In between visits they kindly looked after our bags whilst we went to St Moritz. A very charming European hotel with lots of space in the rooms. We stayed in a larger room which had a separate lounge room. Very well priced for Zurich where absolutely everything is expensive. The staff were amazing. Don’t take this comment lightly as they were all truly exceptional. I have never experienced this homely welcome anywhere else. It really makes your stay away from home so much better. Would definitely stay again and promote to others. Well done team at Alden you should be very proud of yourselves. Please never change

Serious problem with housekeeping in this hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 months ago

It seems this hotel outsources their housekeeping to an outside company, which probably makes sense. That being said, their teams do not work well at all. The rooms in this hotel are not as clean as they should be. Floors are regularly dirty. Dust is found everywhere. The general hygiene is quite bad, and not only not up to 5 star standards but definitely very low by all swiss standards. I have stayed here many times before and it has always been the same problem. In the past the hotel was much cheaper, but now that prices are easily over 600 francs per night and up to 1,000 francs per night, it's just unacceptable.

Avoid, avoid avoid! Old, not 5* at all, almost died of heat!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 months ago

Beautiful hotel, but is no longer a 5* The aircon broke and I almost died of heat. Absolutely unacceptable. They haven't even got a fan that you can borrow at reception There is no restaurant apart from breakfast and the TV does not connect to the internet. Staff just said they had no idea how to fix it. 5* hotels should have at least room service, as advertised. It used to have a Michelin chef, but no more Staff are lovely, but they can't do much to help with everything broken that ruined our stay. So hot, 🥵 it truly lost its appeal. This is from a guest who lives in Cyprus, where it's currently 45 degrees, and yet I've been hotter here than at home. I leave tomorrow and absolutely can't wait to leave. Avoid at all costs!
