Housekeeping!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

I’m very tempted to give it 5 stars because ALMOST everything was outstanding! The only “but” we have is housekeeping! They don’t know what it is. They just barely made the bed even though we told them several times about replacing used towels with clean ones, hanging up robes, pretty much straightforward tidying up the room. You get that at any airport inn. It should be supper basic!

Beautiful Resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 months ago

I was really anxious to try this place and had been following since before opening. We came for our 25th anniversary. It is a beautiful property. Love the design. The price was SUPER high, even for the luxury places we are used to staying. The food experience is amazing. The availability of activities is endless. We had a couple of hiccups. One is that it is not good for people with mobility issues. My husband had hip surgery the month before (which had been delayed unfortunately) and he had some problems getting around on the gravel. You can't park in front of your house, so that's something to consider. Also the fireplace in our house did not work, which is disappointing since you are on Montana. Our smoke alarm starting chirping very early one morning. That's a bummer. I did manage to get to the spa which was great. Also we had a photo session with Stewart, who not only is an amazing photographer but was so much fun. I hate reading reviews when people criticize for petty things. But just as I read some others on this place, for this price people really do expect pretty close to perfection. That being said, we would gladly come again.

Fabulous 50th

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 months ago

We enjoyed a wonderful few days at the GreenO with our three adult children and spouses, celebrating our 50th anniversary. The experience was exactly what we were hoping for, from the gorgeous accommodations to the exquisite dining to the plethora of activities offered. We sampled a large array of activities, including trail riding, cattle driving, clay shooting, guided hiking, fly fishing, water rafting, UTV riding, massages and yoga. All of the staff were gracious, cheerful and helpful . Don’t miss the delicious, beautiful tasting menu for dinner at the Social Haus . We thought we might venture to one of the other dining locales but the tasting menu was just too special. One of our group is vegetarian and she was equally pleased with the very similar items on her personal menu. It was fun to sit around the fire pit after dinner one night, making s’mores, and having a delectable pizza delivered to us another night . The coffee and pastries delivered to each Haus every morning were another lovely touch. I can’t say enough about how much thought must have gone into placement of each Haus, as we visited the four which our group occupied and each seemed very private, well screened by trees and vegetation. Expanses of glass from floor to high windows brought the outdoors in and contributed to the contemporary but pleasingly rustic ambiance. We stayed in the LightHaus but the others similarly enjoyed TreeHaus, RoundHaus and GreenHaus. Our group would unconditionally recommend GreenO to anyone wanting a large choice of activities along with beautiful, comfortable surroundings and delicious food.

Modern Luxury in the Wilderness

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 11 months ago

My husband and I spent 6 nights at green o and really enjoyed our stay. Prior to checking into green o, we spent 4 nights at their sister property, Resort at Paws Up (reviewed separately), and can say the experience between both resorts is night and day! I initially wanted to stay in the Tree Haus, but after looking at the floor plan on the website (you have to climb up 2 flights of stairs to get to the bedroom), I changed to Round Haus. The Round Haus is very open and spacious. Pictures on the website felt accurate, but was much more stunning in person. Of note, washer & dryers are in the room, so no need to overpack. The food at green o is incomparable to what is offered at Pomp, Trough and Shed at Paws Up. If you are expecting American dishes or slabs of meat, I would recommend staying at Paws Up instead. Chef Brandon integrates a surprising amount of Asian influences in his menus, which I was admittedly skeptical (I was not expecting to eat okonomiyaki in Montana!), but he and his team executes the fusion quite flawlessly. Breakfast and lunch menus are unchanged, so it was worth to have lunch at Trough and Shed at Paws Up if you want a change. Trough is more restaurant dining style (appetizer, salad, entrees) and Shed is a fast casual bbq (brisket, pulled pork sandwiches, sausages). Dinner (9 prix fixe courses) changes nightly, though, we noticed some overlap in dishes being prepared a little differently other nights. Dinner is truly a memorable experience on par with any Michelin restaurant (think Eleven Madison [original concept], Mugaritz in Spain or Borago in Chile). If you want to try Pomp or the Chuckwagon dinner at Paws Up, I recommend spending 1-2 nights at Paws Up as you really don't want to miss a dinner at green o. The only odd thing about our stay is that the staff at Social Haus wears multiple hats in being not just the wait staff, but also concierge and more. It was very odd to have them serve us lunch one moment and calling them later to address housekeeping requests, booking us transportation to the Wilderness Outpost or bringing the car around. Having said that, the staff really goes out of their way to address our questions and requests in a prompt and efficient manner. I would say some improvement is needed with housekeeping as they were a little inconsistent, such as not providing new towels (I placed used ones in the bathtub) or refreshing the snacks and laundry detergent. However, if you alert the staff at Social Haus, they do address any requests promptly. Activities are shared with Paws Up guests. I highly recommend the cattle herding, canoe trip on Clearwater River, backcountry road trip to Garnet and fly fishing on Blackfoot River. I really enjoyed staying at both resorts, but if I had a limited amount of time, I would definitely choose green o over Paws Up.

I'm a travel writer, and I can't recommend this place enough!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed November 11, 2022

Google "Katie Jackson travel writer" and you'll see that I cover luxury properties for a living. I've done it for almost a decade now, and I've stayed at some amazing resorts and ranches around the world. That said, my standards are very high, and it takes a lot to impress me. The Green O did just that. Seriously -- from the moment I arrived to the moment I left (kicking and screaming, LOL) I was constantly being impressed with everything from the accommodations to the service and the food. I've eaten at Michelin-star restaurants, but I prefer the fare at The Green O. The chef makes a parsnip soup I could probably eat by the bathtubful! Most importantly, I love how the staff treated my dog, a 110-lb. Leonberger. He got to go everywhere with me (even in buildings) and that's kind of unheard of here in Montana. Oh -- and the activities were great! I did the rifle range, fat biking (in the snow), trail riding and even a sound bath in the stunning yoga studio. I stayed for three nights, but I easily could have stayed for 30 (although I'd probably put on a few pounds, LOL).
