A stay in the cloud forest

We stayed here on Christmas Eve. It was magical! While the rooms are smaller and simple, the attention to detail was impeccable. From the included items such as mosquito repellent, foot rub creams, salt scrubs, etc to holiday details such as artisan chocolates and textiles, the offerings were local and exceptional. Christmas Eve dinner was lovely. The service was perfect and there was the same attention to detail and local offerings here as well. Local musicians performed throughout the meal. It was amazing. Finally, the gardens out back had gorgeous orchids. We sat out there every free moment simply to enjoy the amazing vistas. While this hotel is undeniable pricey, for us it was bucket list experience that has definitely become a core memory. I am grateful for every moment there.

Amazing nights stay at this magical property— book early only 31 rooms!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

We stayed at Sanctuary Lodge as part of a family tour through Peru. All of the hotels we stayed at were Belmond properties, and although this was not the fanciest of the group, the service was outstanding from the moment we arrived after hiking the 16km up the Inca Trail from km 104. Jaciel with her bright smile at the front desk really made us feel welcome. I’m sorry I didn’t note the names of other staff members but truly the entire team was outstanding. There are only 31 rooms so book early. And if you are doing the hike I feel it is particularly important. I cannot imagine after a 5.5 hr hike in 25c weather plus the altitude to have to take a bus down to the town below for accommodations. Also once we hiked up and descended another 45 min to MP and the Lodge there was no way we would have been able to tour MP properly. We literally crawled into the oasis that is Sanctuary Lodge and they took care of us. After a well deserved rest we met our guide in the morning and leisurely explored MP for a couple of hours. We took the bus down and hopped onto the Hiram Bingham train back to Cusco. It was an absolutely perfect way to explore the area.

Machu Pichu

Our stay at the Sanctuary at Machu Picchu was absolutely extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, everything felt effortless, thoughtful, and special. The setting alone is breathtaking, but the warmth of the staff, the comfort of the accommodations, and the attention to detail elevated the experience to something truly unforgettable. We felt completely taken care of while still immersed in the magic of Machu Picchu. Quite honestly, nothing could have made this stay better—it was perfect in every way. We would return in a heartbeat (and probably try to never leave).

The best hotel in the world

If you want to near Machu Picchu, this is the hotel you want to stay to complete the experience. We stayed only one night. However, the experience we have received was beyond our expectations. We have travelled across 7 continents, 5 oceans. I have to say that this is the best hotel we have ever stayed. Highly recommended!!!

Unforgettable experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

The Sanctuary Lodge would be one of top places I have stayed in my entire life. The location is just incredible - right at the entrance of the citadel. If you are traveling with children or elderly parents, do not even think twice and stay at the Lodge. After a long day at the citadel or climbing the mountains, I was glad that the Sanctuary was right there and I could spoil myself with a nice pisco sour and an amazing meal at the end of the day. The hotel is extremely comfortable with all modern amenities surrounded by spectacular scenery. The terrace is such a cool spot to just hang out with a drink or coffee and take in the scenery of the breathtaking mountains. The place will cost you a pretty penny, but worth at least five times more. You must stay there at least once in your life.

We visited Peru and the entire trip was spectacular. Orient-Express hotels provided exceptional service and world-class accommodations. We stayed at the Miraflores Park Hotel, Hotel Monasterio, and Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. All three hotels had beautiful rooms, outstanding restaurants, and a helpful friendly English-speaking staff. From now on, Orient-Express will be at the top of my list for worldwide travel.

We traveled to Peru and enjoyed stays at Miraflores Hotel in Lima, Hotel Monasterio in Cusco, and Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. I am highly satisfied and recommend these hotels without reservation.

Our travels have taken us to several Orient-Express properties. The Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge is exclusively situated at one of the most 'magical and mysterious' sites in the Americas, and guarantees the visitor never-to-be forgotten experiences.
