With a flawless design and a spectacular setting, Alila Villas Uluwatu marries Balinese culture with modern design. Perched atop a magnificent plateau abutting limestone cliffs, the ocean below bellows with the sound of crashing waves and creates a melodic echo with every crest. There are 84 sustainably-designed villas concealing interiors that are contemporary and uncluttered, with overtones of traditional Balinese textures including rattan and stone. The multi-room villas, each with its own pool, radiate with luxury and boast such appointments as private bars, outdoor dining nooks, private cabanas, and stylish baths with both indoor and outdoor showers. There is also 24-hour butler service, which adds an effortless element to your stay.

I travelled as a couple and stayed at Alila Uluwatu for one night before flying home. Alila is beautiful and staff is fantastic, however I wouldn't be recommending it. The price point (2300AUD) for one night is just not value for money. Let’s start with the good for which there are many. A sprawling (you need to use buggys to get back and forth) set on a cliff edge, the views and grounds are spectacular. The staff are very well trained and attentive however it is a larger hotel so don’t expect that personal level of service you get in more boutique hotels. The quality of the food is excellent, truly and at a reasonable price point given the cost of the hotel. We really enjoyed the dinner we had at “The Warung.” Our server was lovely and professional and we enjoyed being surrounded by the violin player. With such a high cost, we started noticing the little things. For example, we found only one towel each, which was inconvenient as two towels per person would have been better – one for the shower and one for the pool. The toiletries, including the shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner, were basic and lacked recognizable brands, making them seem generic, in our opinion. Given the price we paid, we expected something more notable. Additionally, the rooms are beginning to show signs of age. I was informed that a refurbishment is due, and I can see why – there are stains on some of the furnishings, cracks at the edges of the ceiling outside, and a chair in the sitting area had its veneer peeling off. Normally, I wouldn't be so concerned about these minor issues, but when paying such a high price for one night, I expect things to be perfect, not just excellent Normally I wouldn’t care so much about the little things, but when we’re paying that much money for one night I want things to be perfect, not just excellent. While Alila offers stunning views and excellent food, the high price point and minor inconveniences prevent me from recommending it unless money is not a concern.

Had a lovely experience at Alila Villas Uluwatu. The location is absolutely breathtaking — easily one of the most stunning spots in Bali. Service at the bar was very good; the staff were attentive and made the experience even more enjoyable. While the menu has minimal selections, the pricing is fair for a fine dining setting, and the quality of the food did not disappoint. Overall, it’s definitely worth visiting for the location, the ambiance, and the great food.

I visited the Sunset Cabana Bar on Saturday, 26 April. The staff were warm and welcoming, and we were fortunate to be seated front row, enjoying a breathtaking view of the cliffs overlooking the ocean. However, what began as a lovely experience quickly turned into a distressing ordeal. While using the restroom located behind the restaurant, I was alarmed to hear male voices entering the restroom. Without any knock or warning, they tried to force open my door. The men remained inside, speaking loudly, while I was still in the restroom — leaving me feeling completely horrified and unsafe. Fearing the worst, I called my fiancé for help, suspecting it could be intoxicated guests. To my disbelief, it was actually the resort’s engineering team attempting to conduct maintenance. This incident is deeply unsettling and entirely unacceptable, especially at a property that positions itself as a five-star establishment. The 2 male staff were aware of a female guest’s presence and yet chose to remain in the restroom, disregarding basic privacy, safety, and professionalism. I am both disappointed and shaken by this experience.

This hotel was nothing short of beautiful. Me and my husband came here for our 1 year anniversary and we were so pleased. This was our 4th and last hotel and they did not disappoint. Everything was perfect. Everyone was so helpful. They did not miss a beat. Excellent staff and the food was delicious. Best food in Bali to us. We had the most beautiful dinner. Worth the price.

“The Alila Uluwatu is a truly gorgeous property with breathtaking views. It was the perfect end to our honeymoon. I strongly recommend the hotel for a private getaway for couples although there were some families present at the time we were there. Definitely a very pricey hotel. The saying ""if you have to ask then you probably can't afford it"" I think fits well. However with views and luxury behind them I figure one shouldn't complain. Really miss waking up to seeing my private pool, cabana and the blue skies and seas of the Indian ocean sprawled out before me. Service couldn't be flawed either. Smiles everywhere accompanied by genuine interest to make sure all was well with meals, spa, rooms etc."
