About the Hotel

Although it's just 6 miles east of Belfast's vibrant city center, Culloden Estate & Spa feels like a secluded country retreat. This Irish landmark was originally built as an official palace for the Bishop of Down, and is tucked into 12 acres of gardens and woodland. With their cozy country house furnishings, many guestrooms and suites gaze over the grounds toward Belfast Lough. Savor fresh Irish produce at Mitre Restaurant, and enjoy a convivial drink with fellow guests in the garden setting of the Cultra Inn. To soothe away the cares of modern life, Elysium Spa offers an indulgent selection of specialized treatments.

Enjoyable few days but spoilt by lack of attention to detail. Also had a disturbed night due to a noisy wedding party on the terrace below our window.

We loved it

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

For a weekend in Belfast, we couldn't have done much better. This is an elegant old building, sympathetically modified and added to. Ours was a medium level room, garden facing, and it was lovely- spacious, clean, a full bathroom with separate shower and bath. Ironing board and iron are also supplied, a giveaway that it's a popular wedding/events venue. One minor issue was the lack of a mini-bar or fridge; this has never been a deal-breaker for us, but it's a "nice to have". We didn't dine in, so no comment on the restaurants, but the breakfasts were adequate, and nicely presented. Likewise, we didn't use the Spa, but walking though, it looked pretty good. The public areas are beautifully furnished, and some of the art on display was fantastic, extending to the sculptures on the lawns outside. (Culloden seems to be something of a gallery as well as a hotel). The grounds are immaculate, and with the perfect weather we had, we enjoyed them to the full. It is a bit of a distance from central Belfast if that is included in your itinerary, but we would certainly stay here again.

5 star service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

I went on a solo trip to the culloden estate and spa, and what a wonderful experience. I had the 80 min relaxation massage and from the moment I walked in the customer service was so welcoming. As for the lady who did my massage she was very competent and accommodated the massage to my needs. She maintained my dignity at all times. She was very polite and friendly and represented the cullodens 5 star status very well. I will deffinitly be back. Thankyou for a very relaxing experience.

Not worth the money

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

The hotel is beautiful from the outside and is in a lovely location, this is our third visit not sure we would go back! At Lesley £400 a night the room wasn’t worth it the bedding had stains on it and the walls were filled with bare plaster’
