A thirteenth century castle buried deep in a wooded parkland sounds like the setting for a fairy tale, but really it is home to the exclusive Ashford Castle. Standing impressively on the shores of Lough Corrib in County Mayo, Ireland, Ashford Castle is a monument to a fascinating and timeless history. Once the Guinness Family estate, the Castle has since opened its doors as an exclusive luxury hotel in 1939. Where else could one spend the morning learning how to fly a hawk at the School of Falconry, escape to the Walled Garden for a romantic picnic, and relax in the afternoon with a soothing massage at the spa? Filled with family heirlooms, rich furnishings and priceless objets dâ€(TM)art, Ashford presents the chance to enjoy the splendor of a bygone era in comfort and style.

My husband and I enjoyed three fabulous days in this one-on-a-kind property. We have been home for two weeks and still talk about it daily. From the greeting when we first drove up to the castle to checkout - it was all first class! The staff are so kind and helpful. The property is stunning. We loved it all - walking to the town of Cong (only a 10-minute walk), spa treatments, afternoon tea, dog walk, lake cruise, before dinner drinks in Prince of Wales bar, dinners at George V Dining Room and Cullen's Cottage, tour of the wine cellar and after dinner entertainment in The Drawing Room. We hope we are fortunate enough to go again one day.

This hotel just gets better each time. Service is ten star and long standing staff members such as Robert (since 1987), Eleanor, Paul ( Head Sommelier) all add to that experience. Dinner was also superb each night. Their breakfast menu is the best in Ireland. I did have a quibble about the choice available for lunch regarding lighter dishes but this was dealt with very professionally. The gardens and walks are lovely. Rooms are really beautiful Will be back!

Location, food, room and service were fantastic. This is one of the best hotels we stayed at in Europe and arguably the service was the friendliest. Close to lovely Connemara where, on our stay here, we climbed the Diamond Hill. We will definitely be returning!

5-star treatment during our stay. All staff were courteous and professional. The grounds are impeccable, and the castle is extraordinary. The bed was amazing and the turn down service was a pleasant surprise. Once in a lifetime experience!

Many people may come and go at Ashford Castle but you will feel recognized and welcomed when you arrive. We were treated as royalty the entirety of our stay. One would have to stretch a truth to come up with a negative. My wife and I traveled almost all of Ireland with a rental car, visiting every authentic Irish experience as possible. Our stay at Ashford Castle was by far the peak of our honeymoon. This experience is worth its weight in gold! We are already planning our anniversary to stay a week.

This is one of the finest properties we have ever visited. It is a beautiful castle, but it is also a world class hotel in the most beautiful setting you can imagine. The grounds are large and bikes are available for guests, the fishing on the river and the lake are first rate, and the service is unmatched. We have stayed twice and can't wait to go back again.
