Aaargh you ready for a lively pirate invasion? The annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival in Tampa celebrates an invasion by mythical pirate José Gaspar. Featuring the more than 120-year-old Parade of Pirates, one of the largest parades in the United States at nearly five miles long, the free celebration invites revelers to enjoy pirate-themed merriment and undiscovered treasures. The event kicks off when rapscallions sailing the world’s only fully-rigged steel pirate ship dock at the Tampa Convention Center, where the city's mayor ceremoniously surrenders the key to the city to Captain Gasparilla.
The pirate fest also features a full day of live music, food, and more festivities on the Tampa riverfront. A more family-friendly version of the festival, the Children's Gasparilla Extravaganza, takes place the week prior to the festival for adult pirate fans.
