Memorable Vacation

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Wogick 1 review Vacation | Family My husband and I recently spent five nights at The Current Hotel Autograph Collection in Tampa, Florida. Upon our arrival, we were immediately impressed with the beauty of the hotel. Patrick, the front desk Manager welcomed us warmly and made us feel at ease and was able to procure a room with a view for us. Ami, Director of Operations, made sure our stay was unforgettable. Ashley and Allison, from Sales, also welcomed us and greeted us on several occasions during our stay and were always polite, courteous and helpful. Pacita was more than happy to do a group photo of us. Our servers while dining at Julian’s on several occasions included Patrick, Tatiana, Sandra and Stephen. They were professional, courteous and well trained in serving the delicious dishes prepared by Restaurant Supervisor John. Beatrix, the Restaurant Manager, welcomed us and seated us one morning and was truly delightful. Lastly, Alec Petitpas, a member of the kitchen staff, was the creator of the most beautiful charcuterie board that was delivered to our room. Every staff member that we encountered was extremely helpful and courteous. Our room was immaculate and we look forward to a return visit.

Lots of Glitter but Lacking Substance

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Room type: Deluxe 1 Bedroom King Suite THE GOOD: Room: -Sunny, spacious, lots of storage for clothing and luggage. -Great bathroom amenities. Beautiful shower and soaking tub. -Electronic safe in room. -Everything super clean. -Separate climate controls for living room and bedroom. -Mostly hardwood flooring; rugs near bed and in the living room. -Numerous electronic light controls at entry way and near the bed. Front desk: -Generally efficient and attentive. Fitness Facilities: -Very clean and well equipped-treadmills, weights, etc. -Access to outside terrace- nice touch. Housekeeping: -Perfect and consistent. Turndown service provided. Pool attendants (not food and beverage): -Generally good but depends on personality of attendant. Dining: -The Market breakfast is great. We had a great server from NJ who was excellent. THE BAD: Room: -Refrigerator: packed with alcohol (mini-bar). We had to move items out of the fridge to store our own items. Be careful here. They ended up charging us for mini bar items we never used. It was a bit inconvenient to have the charges removed from our bill, after we got home. -Low-end Nespresso machine in room. Not fitting for a 5-star hotel. -Faulty light switch in bathroom. No light in the bathroom unless all lights in the suite were activated. Engineering fixed it and wrote a nice note, but it took two attempts on two separate days. Front Desk: -We were told that we would receive a text when our room was ready. Never happened. Hotel Staff: -I asked for ice on various occasions. As an adult, I don’t need to be told how to grab a bag of ice from various staff members. Found this condescending. -Unfriendly staff, which may sometimes be interpreted as “I’m better than you”. The Pool: -Haven for wannabe influencers. Had to avoid being filmed, picture taken on various occasions. -Food: lackluster. Inconsistent service. Gluten-free option ordered, but other parts of the meal were modified without my permission. Second day, same gluten-free option ordered and was served a regular bun. -Music during the day too loud for my liking. Food & Dining: -The Market: Service inconsistent. Salt and pepper grinders broken. Glass dirty. Fitness Facilities: -Treadmills very wobbly and not level. Who installed these, and why were they not checked? -Loud club music playing in gym during early hours. Not my preference. Final Verdict: The Edition Tampa falls short as a 5-start hotel and instead gives a solid performance at a 4-star level. It’s a beautiful property nestled in the convenience of downtown Tampa but all that glitters is not gold here. Yes, it’s nice to look at but it’s swarming with wannabe influencers and annoying people who want to be seen. I would say this property takes more of a “Las-Vegas luxury” approach and needs to improve to really own a 5-star rating.

Big let down. 6-star prices, Spring Break vibes.

My husband and I were very excited to check-in to the relatively new Ian Schrager property last night. We’re staying for 3 nights — nice getaway from kids. We travel regularly to Tampa to see extended family and this is, by far, the nicest offering in Tampa. As a couple, we travel a ton and usually stay at the Four Seasons, St. Regis, etc. We love The Edition in West Hollywood. We arrived on a Saturday night at 10pm to check-in. We pulled up to the valet and felt like we were landing in the middle of Floribama Shore Spring Break. The scene at the valet is chaos. The valets were perfectly nice but distracted, and very focused on the stream of people lingering around the outside of the hotel. We gave our car to the valet and brought our bags into the lobby. The lobby was total chaos. There were two police officers guarding the hotel, yet it seemed that pretty much anyone could come in and out. We weren’t directed to the reception and it took a while to find it because the lobby was packed with people taking pictures on the gorgeous stairwell inside the lobby. I can only describe the crowd as young, nightclub vibe. 99% aren’t staying at the hotel, and it was not quite the “exclusive” vibe I would have hoped for at a hotel at this price point. Note: we were paying $600/night for a standard king room. *In Tampa*. This isn’t NY/Miami/LA, it’s Tampa. When we eventually found the unassuming front desk, we waited. One person at the front desk, and she was fielding several questions from folks not staying at the hotel. Check-in was easy. We asked for an upgrade and were told that the hotel is fully committed. A total lie, as there were plenty of suites online and our Amex Centurion rep said plenty of inventory. But whatever. Rooms are fine. Small. Well-appointed. Nothing really “wow” and definitely not worth $600/night. We went up to the rooftop bar for a drink. This is where it all sort of went downhill. Again, I can only say MTV Spring Break. Pool was packed. Hard to get a drink. Wound up trying to go to the inside bar and the bouncer rudely pointed us away. I explained we were hotel guests and he stepped aside without saying a word. Not friendly at all. The inside bar had 2 bartenders. We ordered 2 $25 poorly made cocktails and wound up staying for 20 mins. Lots of people in the bar who were there for a wedding. Most not staying in hotel. Overall, the look and fixtures of the hotel are what you’d expect from Ian Schrager. The service is just ok. The clientele don’t appear to be hotel guests and it has a very chaotic, Spring Break feel. Not a 5-star experience and not value for money.

Great for Amalie Arena attendance

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Great for a quick night and attending a game or concert (like Madonna!) Pros: -two minutes from the Arena, bright and clean with friendly staff. The coffee shop in the morning was great. Cons: - stayed on floor 6 noise was an issue if you are concerned about that, hall noise, city noise etc. so bring a noise machine or ear plugs and you’re good. Be aware that it’s Valet only if that is a concern.

Not for us

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Myself, my husband and our 10 year old daughter stayed at The Edition Tampa 1 night, a Sunday, in late March. My husband had an early flight Monday morning so we had a quick little family getaway before he left in Tampa. I really wanted to like this hotel since it was nice to see a five star hotel in Tampa. There are pros, as noted below, but the cons far outweigh the pros for my family and our expectations and we will not return to this location. Pros: hotel was very clean, dinner room-service was great, quiet in our room, all the staff we encountered were super kind and helpful, great location Cons: I left air pods and a wireless charger accidentally in the room at check out and it was stolen (my bad, but still was a shock for a five star hotel that they weren’t turned in), pool was much smaller than it looked in pictures and was packed all day, pool was also not a place I’d be comfortable to be with my 10 year old daughter, breakfast at the restaurant was not great, lobby seemed like a hang-out for people who were not staying at the hotel, valet team seemed like nice young guys, but lacked the professionalism I usually see at other five star hotels, valet took about 30 minutes to get my car and it was not a busy time.
