For when you need to lay back, lean in, or get immersed in the flavors and culture of the live music capital of the world, you know something memorable is about to happen at Thompson Austin. A place for locals and visitors to let loose poolside or at the restaurants and bars, where the luxe, contemporary vibe is signature Thompson — bold but not showy, complex yet confidently relaxed. With dramatic Austin cityscape views on display, the residential feel of the accommodations creates a setting to refresh and get ready for anything. Check into rooms, suites or residences offering moody hues, gorgeous custom furnishings, floor-to-ceiling windows with roller shade window coverings, and elegant plank floors in a warm gray wood grain. The custom décor mixes midcentury modern with late-century luxury, resulting in elegant spaces that will make you take pause before heading back out into the city. This untamed urban playground celebrates serious revelry from the moment you encounter the lobby’s airy atmosphere of light and shadow, offset by the bold geode-inspired architecture.

We recently stayed at the Thompson Hotel for our daughter’s wedding. The property itself is gorgeous—modern, stylish, and well-located. Our upgraded suite was spacious and comfortable, perfect for our family during a special occasion. The front desk staff was warm and helpful when we arrived late due to a check-in delay, and they kindly offered a $100 Amex credit as a gesture. However, our experience was marred by significant billing issues. Despite the promised credit, it was never applied. On top of that, we were charged for a room service lunch from the day we hadn’t even checked in yet, as well as a breakfast that should have been covered. Thankfully, I requested a printed copy of the final bill—otherwise, we would have unknowingly paid over $300 in extra charges. While the front desk assured us corrections would be made, the revised bill still included incorrect charges, and I had to follow up again after checkout to get them resolved. It’s disappointing that during such a meaningful trip, we had to monitor our bill so closely. The hotel itself is lovely, but the lack of billing accuracy and follow-through left a sour note on an otherwise memorable stay.

First time I am disappointed at Trip Advisory reviews and 2024 recommendation seal. As we arrived at the Hotel we were greeted promptly by the valet and the front desk was equally accommodating. The Hotel was Hotel room was ok. For the price that we paid I was expecting a lot more. The room wants to be high end but falls short. It was a little small. We had a good view. There is no switch to turn on the lights for the main space. You have to go to the lights on the wall and turn them ON individually by getting your fingers in between two lights and turning a knob clock wise. Just install a switch. There was no coffee mugs for the coffee so we used the water glasses. There was no creamer either. I prefer an actual door for the bathroom vs a sliding door. Gym was good and good equipment. Even though we did no use the terrace pool it look great and had a good ambience.

Amazing hotel! Ideal location to walk all over Austin. Rooms are comfortable - bathrooms could be bigger or at least have a dual sink. The restaurant is great and they gave us drink tokens when we arrived which was a nice extra. We checked out complimentary bikes and they were great - made the trip much more fun.

Who gave this a traveler award? I paid 700 bucks for an end room that is the smallest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in. It’s a concrete prison room. The air condition unit is so loud it sounds like a diesel truck…probably why they left me ear plugs next to the bed and there is some pound banging noises that sounds like a woodpecker that goes off every 30 minutes. It’s like they bought it and did a cheap remodel of old hotel. A super expensive 3 star hotel at best. It’s also loud outside with banging music so be prepared

This isn’t a great hotel but it’s worth a stay if your destination is Sixth Street or you have business in Austin. Rooms are pretty comfortable with really comfortable beds and pillows, decent bathrooms, and okay furniture. One down note. The cement ceiling I suppose is meant to be edgy, but just ends up looking unfinished and weird. Room service was limited but delivered quickly and with cheer. The granola breakfast is especially fast and tastes decent. Coffeehouse attached is pretty good as is the hotel bar. The gym is a real standout for a hotel, so no excuse not to work out. It is awesome, but it is good, and a fine place to stay.
