Wining Through Cappadocia: A Journey Below the Surface

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

The three of us are total wine nerds. So naturally, when we were planning our trip, we knew Cappadocia was famous for its wine scene. But once we got there… let’s just say, the wines we tried didn’t exactly blow us away. Then came Seki Restaurant. We were drawn in by the beautiful setting and promising menu, so we booked a lunch reservation. As soon as we arrived, we saw a wall full of wine awards at the entrance. That’s when we knew—we were in the right place. Lunch was a hit. The food was delicious and the wine pairings were on point. Toward the end of the meal, we asked the sommelier, Nihat, if he had any recommendations for local wineries we could visit. Without hesitation and with a confident grin, he said, “Ours. It’s the best in Cappadocia.” Bold words—but he said it like he meant it. Excited, we booked a visit for the following afternoon. To our surprise, the winery’s cellar was right beneath the hotel—a historic cave carved into the rock. It wasn’t just filled with wines from their own label, Nahita Dokya, but also top-tier bottles from around the world. After touring the cellar, Nihat led us to a space that used to be an old church, now transformed into a stunning wine-tasting room. We tried six wines, each made from a different single grape variety: an Emir white, a Chardonnay, a Kalecik Karası rosé and red, a Boğazkere red, and a Syrah. Each wine came with a perfectly paired cheese. Our tastebuds were living their best lives. We’d tasted a bunch of Turkish wines in Istanbul earlier, but to be honest, most were just okay. This tasting, though? It explained everything. Now we totally get why Nihat was so confident—these wines were genuinely world-class. Each one had a clear sense of place and character. Nothing generic. Everything intentional. To top it all off, Nihat invited us outside to sip wine while taking in the breathtaking Cappadocian landscape. Honestly, from Istanbul to Cappadocia to Antalya, we’ve tasted a lot on this trip—and Nahita Dokya’s premium line stands out as some of the best wines Turkey has to offer. So if you’re a fellow wine lover looking for something beyond the standard tourist path, go to Argo Hotel, have a meal at Seki, and most importantly—find Nihat. He knows his stuff, he’s passionate, and he’ll make sure your glass (and heart) are full.

Wonderful diner and great service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We had a truly unforgettable dinner at Argos in Cappadocia. The setting was magical, the food was delicious, and the entire experience was made even more special thanks to Yusuf. From the moment we arrived, he was incredibly friendly and welcoming. He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and happy, and he was especially wonderful with the baby. Yusuf’s attentiveness and genuine warmth really stood out and made the evening feel extra special. The little details he took care of didn’t go unnoticed, and it’s rare to meet someone so naturally great at what they do. We’re grateful for the beautiful experience and can’t recommend Argos – and Yusuf – highly enough!

Top notch hospitality: personnel who cares and delivers

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We needed a hotel that would make us at ease, enjoy every moment of stay and repelnish our energy eagerly spent in various activiteis in Cappdocia. Argos made it all come true. Special thanks to personnel at the reception for a smooth welcome at a late hour after an exausting journey. SPA personnel was an absolute delight - attentive and taking good care of us - we had three massages with three different specialists and all were top class - highly recomended. Our unique experience was the last day breakfast at the restaurant terrace - Yusuf made us at home as his true guests - endulging us in a local food experience by a local was exceptional - Yusuf made our day and far beyond - he is legendary by our family's count :)

Headed to Cappadocia? Here is a magical place to stay!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

If you want a fabulous hotel, this is the place for you. Everything about our visit was perfect (including an unexpected snowfall). The staff is great, especially Fenhaut, the bar manager who took very good care of us. Cappadocia is a magical place and staying at Argos elevated the experience. I only wish we had more time there to enjoy all the property had to offer.
