We had a wonderful stay at the Four Seasons Hangzhou at West Lake Hotel in April. The hotel impressed us with its spacious room, excellent service, and warm-welcoming staffs. The concierge staff was exceptionally helpful, providing insightful recommendations that truly enhanced our trip. As it’s our first time to Hangzhou, we greatly appreciated the valuable information he shared. His restaurant suggestions were fantastic, and their assistance with reservations made dining seamless. A charming touch was the provision of snacks in our room during the first two days. I particularly loved the tea paired with green bean cakes and chocolates. It’s pity that they weren’t available for purchase! The hotel shop had a wonderful selection of souvenirs, where we bought some hand-crafted teapot, cups, and a stylish Han shirt. Hanging around the shop was a delightful experience. The hotel’s comfortable environment, surrounded by many trees and grass. Breakfast was equally impressive, offering a diverse selection of food, including dim sum from a Michelin-recognized Jin Sha restaurant. Our stay package included the boat trip. We opted to upgrade to an electronic boat, and it was absolutely worth it! This allowed us to enjoy West Lake’s breathtaking scenery away from the crowds. A special surprise from the hotel was receiving a beautiful bouquet, adding another thoughtful touch to a memorable experience. Four Seasons truly knows how to exceed expectations. I also like the hotel’s instant communication through the hotel app, which allowed for quicker responses compared to email. This efficient response sets Four Seasons apart from other luxury hotels. We dined at WL Bistro and Jin Sha during our stay. The WL Bistro offered great service, and my child loved the seasonal pasta. He said it was tasty. Jin Sha, a Michelin-starred restaurant, just delivered fair quality of food and service. Honestly, it didn’t fully meet my expectations. We also reserved a hotel car for airport transportation, and the staffs were incredibly nice and helpful. While the tea plantation tour was an interesting experience, it may not suit those who prefer more relaxed activity. Our early April visit meant encountering quite a few flies, and the stairs were slippery due to previous rain, which unfortunately led to my child slipping (thankfully, without injury). Although the tea planting session was enjoyable, the latter session was less satisfying. After the tea garden staff had shared insightful knowledge, the session quickly shifted into the sale of supplements and tea, which was disappointing given the tour cost CNY 1,800—we expected a purely educational experience, enjoyable tea time with beautiful view but free from commercial upselling. A minor issue was the room temperature fluctuation after midnight. For the first two nights, the temperature automatically alternated between very hot and very cold, but it thankfully became stable for the last two nights. Overall, Four Seasons Hangzhou at West Lake offers luxury and relaxing stay.

Perhaps my wife raised my expectations somewhat as she stayed some years back on a business trip with a friend and raved about it. The hotel certainly has a presence as we arrived and the lobby area was impressively large, overlooking a man-made pond and greenery beyond. There were preparations for a wedding dinner and the setting up untidiness over the pond took away any wow effect. The suite was generous in size but our view was obstructed...again another disappointment. I think one has to pay more for lake view :( The morning buffet was good quality though the spread was displayed along the corridor into the dining room due to space limitation. The Michelin starred Chinese restaurant was good but again not great. We considered taking the boat ride, which my wife did on her first stay but the price put me off. Having instead taken our simple public boat ride over the main lake, I figured the premium price we would have paid for the hotel boat would be for a nicer boat and enjoying a more exclusive area not opened to the public. After my underwhelming review so far, I would give top marks for the staff service and attention. The manager of the hotel main restaurant was especially helpful giving us good tips about sightseeing options near around the hotel. I would recommend checking out the hotel for the experience in Hangzhou and if you have no budget constraint, book a suite with good lake view.

We just have our first wedding anniversary in years at Four Seasons Hangzhou at Westlake. In fact, we chose the Hangzhou because of the hotel 😊 location and we did not regret our decision. Thanks to Bryan and the KL team at Four Seasons at Kuala Lumpur for his wonderful recommendation! We could not imagine a better way to celebrate and remember our wedding anniversary year. We were greeted with flowers and have a photo taken and framed on our arrival (all within first 10 mins, thanks to Amber Chen). The morning breakfast on the boat, savoring the scenic Westlake and gentle breeze, was a highlight of our trip. The photo shoot within the hotel's scenic compound yielded wonderful memories, and the photos are treasured keepsakes. The food at Jinsha was impeccable and deserved more than 1 Michelin star. But what really hit home was the exceptional service of Gianni Costa (GM) and his team (Amber, Maggie, Rebecca, Clark, Tony etc). The team's dedication to excellence and warm hospitality exceeded our expectations in every way. We were pleasantly surprised when Maggie helped to extend our check out by a couple of hours despite a busy holiday period due to our late flight out. We appreciate the commitment of the team at Westlake to provide us with a memorable experience that would stay for us for many years to come.

Pros: 1. Room quality. The rooms had ample space, comfortable beds and sofas, a desk, and a decent bathroom. 2. Sleep quality. There was a wide range of pillows and quilts to choose from. 3. Food. The best restaurant was a Michelin 1-star restaurant featuring classic Hangzhou food and some Italian food, too. 4. Service. The waiters and waitresses maintained a good attitude towards us. 5. Atmosphere. Oks: 1. Value.
