Reviews for The Peninsula Istanbul
Still my favorite hotel in Istanbul, but last stay had some flaws
I travel over 200 nights a year and visit Istanbul around 20 times annually. The Peninsula Istanbul has always been my absolute favorite — stunning views of the Bosphorus, a beautiful heated outdoor pool overlooking the old city, elegant and quiet rooms, exceptional design, and a level of service that usually exceeds even top programs like Amex Centurion and Fine Hotels & Resorts. Their 5–10 km chauffeured transfer service is also a rare and highly appreciated feature among Istanbul’s top hotels. But unfortunately, my recent stay was overshadowed by several serious issues: 🚧 TOFAŞ Event & Blocked Galataport Access I arrived at 4:00 PM from the airport — only to be stuck in traffic for almost 50 minutes just 400 meters from the hotel due to a large external TOFAŞ event. There was no traffic management for guests, no support or information from hotel staff, and worst of all: the private hotel security gate to Galataport (normally exclusive to guests) was closed off and we were denied access. A key privilege was suddenly taken away with no explanation or plan — completely unacceptable at this level. 🔇 Loud Noise Until 1 AM I was assigned a room in Building 4 — not knowing the event would include loading and unloading trucks beneath the building late into the night. The noise between 10:30 PM and 1:00 AM made it impossible to sleep. I tried to be patient, but finally called reception around midnight. While they kindly offered to move me, the damage was done. After long-haul flights from Argentina and the US, I desperately needed rest before an early meeting. Instead, I barely slept 2 hours. ❓Missing Guest Profile Surprisingly, the front desk had no record of my five previous stays — most likely due to a character issue in my name (Ö/”OE”). But at this level, loyal guests should never be invisible in the system. Recognition and personalized service are what build loyalty — and in this case, it was entirely missing. Despite these problems, I want to emphasize: The Peninsula Istanbul is still one of the best hotels in the city and globally. But operational oversights like these — especially during external events — need urgent improvement to maintain the level of excellence that The Peninsula name stands for. I truly hope my next stay will be back to the standard I’ve come to admire and trust.

Quality throughout. This Peninsula stands out for the quality of its staff, and the well appointed rooms. All the facilities are magnificent - with the best indoor pool we have ever encountered and stunning spa facilities. Restaurant is also uncommonly good. Hotel location is ideal for points of departure.

My visit at the hotel exceeded every expectation I had. If you need help, seek out Mariette in the Lobby, Eren at the front desk and Gürkan with the concierge. These three lovely people are shining examples of the gracious hospitality of the Peninsula hotel.

Perfect stay in Istanbul! We will be back!
Amazing stay at this stunning hotel! All staff are so friendly and helpful. They go out of their way for you. Given newly renovated, rooms are immaculate and high tech with anything you could ever want. We are a family of four and the ability to have two rooms adjacent to each other with a common shared private corridor, was a perfect set up for us. Kids were delighted to see a chocolate edible model of the hotel for us on arrival in each room. Breakfast was varied. Buffet and can also choose a cooked item from the menu. Beautiful indoor and outdoor heated pools. Amazing gym. Absolutely perfect location. Close walking distance to tram that takes you up to Hagia Sophia and Grand Bazaar. Walk across the bridge to Spice Market. Karaköy ferry stop just next door. Make sure you don’t miss best baklava shop in Istanbul just up the street “Gulluoglu Karakoy”.

An Impeccable and Unforgettable Stay
We have stayed in some of the most amazing hotels across the world, but The Peninsula in Istanbul has surpassed them all! Absolutely every aspect of this hotel was impeccable, from the quality of the furnishings, the brilliant design of the architecture and interiors, the dining and bar experiences, the incredibly cleanliness, the leisure facilities and its enviable position overlooking the dramatically beautiful and busy Bosphorus Strait. However, the one element that made the biggest impact on us was the attention and friendliness of all the staff - from the management to the housekeeping staff and everyone in between. I'm useless at remembering names, I wish I could remember at least some of them, but actually, I wouldn't want to single just a few out because every member of staff was friendly, helpful, courteous, extremely efficient in their respective roles and a joy to have there. From the minute we arrived in the early hours (with fresh tea brought to our room without asking, even though it was so late!) to the afternoon we left 6 days later, we experienced warmth and friendliness from everyone. Every minute we were in The Peninsula Hotel was a joy, we really did not want to leave, but knowing we will certainly be returning within the next few months made the parting more bearable! May I also thank the staff very much for recognising our wedding anniversary with a beautiful gift of cake and flowers and a lovely hand-written card, the gesture was very much appreciated and enjoyed, along with the impeccable attention to detail both in our room and around the whole hotel. We can't wait to return! Thank you all!
