The staff at the Hyatt Regency Kyoto were friendly, helpful, and welcoming throughout my stay. I truly appreciated their warmth and hospitality. However, the check-in experience left something to be desired—not due to attitude, but knowledge. The associate assisting me, while very kind, struggled to answer some basic questions, which was a bit frustrating though not unpleasant. The hotel’s common areas are well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing, showing care and effort from the staff. However, certain details are clearly being overlooked. For instance, the elevator ceiling light cover was heavily stained and long overdue for replacement. It's a minor fix, yet it leaves a surprisingly strong negative impression—especially for a hotel positioned as a Category 5 in the Hyatt portfolio. The guest room itself was small and noticeably dated. While it’s clear the staff work hard to keep things clean, the age of the property really shows. Most disappointing was the condition of the bathroom. The toilet area had a distinct urine smell, suggesting that it hadn't been properly cleaned. This raised concerns about overall hygiene, as it seemed there may have been dried urine left unaddressed on the floor or surrounding areas. Overall, while I appreciated the service from the staff, the physical state of the property and the cleanliness issues were simply unacceptable for what is marketed as a premium Hyatt experience. In my opinion, this hotel more accurately reflects the standards of a Category 2 or 3 property. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and considers a much-needed renovation and review of housekeeping protocols.

Everything about this hotel was perfect. The staff were so polite and welcoming. They went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. The hotel is in a great location and right across from the museum. The food at the restaurant was excellent. The breakfast was incredible.

Great and very attentive staff. The breakfast was superb and dinner at the Italian restaurant was also delicious. Definitely a great property and a great stay. My only recommendation would be, that if you want a hotel in the heart of Kyoto this isn’t it. We had to take an uber almost anywhere … but for the prize paid I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in Kyoto for 3 nights with our family of 5, kids ages 16, 14, 10. We booked a corner room and 5th floor balcony room. Prior to the stay, I communicated with the hotel requesting rooms near each other and a rollaway for the balcony room. All requests were accommodated with no problems. We enjoyed the Geisha show in the lobby - a nice surprise treat with a happy hour. We ordered taxis multiple times and the bell desk was incredibly helpful getting 1 van taxi for our family of 5 instead of paying for 2 taxis. The rooms were clean and quiet. It’s a very busy hotel with families and business travelers but we were always greeted with a smile and the staff was always ready to help with requests. Another note - we got some laundry done by the hotel one day. Given to housekeeping in the morning and returned by the time we got back to the room. Very helpful!
