The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong

We arrived at the hotel after a very long day of travelling from the UK. Initially, we found the hotel quite hard to locate (after having walked past it three or four times) so wonder if perhaps some clear signage might help but appreciate we were new to the area. On arrival, the staff were very welcoming although the offer of something to drink whilst checking in would have been nice as it was hot. The check in process took quite a while in comparison to the other hotels we stayed in. The room itself was beautiful and exceeded our expectations. The attention to detail was fantastic and the staff were very kind and helpful. We had the best nights sleep in a long time and were touched when we returned to our room in the evening to find water and slippers at the side of our bed. We had some issues with accessing the Internet and again the staff couldn’t do enough to help us. The Club Lounge access was excellent. The staff in the lounge were kind and attentive and made us feel very welcome. The breakfast at the hotel was the best of our entire trip across Asia. The quality of food was exceptional and there was a wide range on offer. Again, the staff were welcoming and kind. We would have very much liked to use the spa and gym but did not have time on this trip so cannot comment on those facilities but no doubt they were equally as fantastic. Our only regret of the stay was choosing to dine at Flair, the rooftop bar located in the hotel and not one of their restaurants. We felt that Flair really let the rest of the hotel down. The staff were not at all welcoming and even though we had a booking, we were put on a table at the very back next to the kitchen and when politely asked to move, it felt as though we were an inconvenience. The food itself was very average. We didn’t stay long and returned to our room to sleep as we were tired from travelling. After falling asleep, a staff member from Flair came to our room requesting we sign a new bill as they’d made a mistake with our original bill. We didn’t feel overly comfortable with this approach. We would genuinely stay again and still believe the 5 stars are deserved but personally we regret not having chosen to eat in the hotel restaurants and would definitely not recommend Flair.

During my recent stay at The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong, I had the pleasure of spending time at the Club Lounge, where I was truly impressed by the warm, thoughtful service—especially from Eddie. Eddie went above and beyond to make guests feel at home. From his attentive greetings every morning to remembering personal preferences, his professionalism and genuine care stood out. He anticipated needs before we even voiced them and consistently made us feel valued and welcomed. Whether it was helping with custom drinks, offering thoughtful local tips, or just chatting with a warm smile, Eddie elevated the experience and made our time at the Lounge feel special. It’s rare to come across such exceptional hospitality, and I’m grateful for the experience. Thank you, Eddie, for making my stay unforgettable. The Club Lounge wouldn’t be the same without you!

A lovely hotel with exceptional service! As soon as I arrived to check in it was clear that the customer service at this hotel is taken very seriously. I was very impressed by the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The food served in the hotel is excellent and the breakfast buffet delicious. The rooms are well presented and the beds extremely comfortable with lovely linens. My only feedback would be to suggest changing the hairdryers. Mine was fitted within a drawer in the bathroom with an extremely short cable that made it near impossible to dry my hair properly.

Stayed at Ritz-Carlton Pudong last week. Helen from Club Lounge became my "Shanghai guru" - her Yu Garden hacks saved time, and she even helped book a river cruise! Concierge arranged vintage taxi transfers seamlessly. Housekeeping noticed my extra pillow request without asking. Every team member smiled like they genuinely cared. This isn’t just a hotel, it’s a masterclass in Chinese hospitality. Will definitely return!

Our wonderful evening at this beautiful hotel began with dinner at Jin Xuan, one of the finest restaurants in China that has been Michelin-starred for 9 consecutive years. It's located above the clouds - an elegant dining room with sweeping views of Shanghai’s skyline and The Bund. The menu is Cantonese, featuring exquisitely presented dishes with flavours that are intriguing, umami-rich, and full-bodied. The restaurant spares no expense in providing guests with the highest quality - from Perrier-Jouët Blason Rosé Champagne and a wide selection of fine wines to freshly sourced ingredients, both local and international, such as New Zealand lobsters, Iwate Prefecture abalone, Australian M6 Wagyu beef, and local Spotted Grouper. After dinner, we headed up to the glamorous rooftop bar Flair, an iconic Shanghai institution offering sweeping panoramic views of the city’s skyline. You could sit here for hours, mesmerised by the glistening view that stretches on endlessly. Despite the refined setting, the atmosphere is actually warm and vibrant, filled with locals enjoying their evening. It’s a truly exceptional place to spend a memorable and elegant evening. I've met many PR professionals around the world but as soon as I saw these ladies I was impressed by their poise, professionalism and warmth. Their high standard represents that of the hotel and makes me want to return.
