Reviews for The Saint Paul Hotel

If the Saint Paul Grill is closed, The Drake isn't a good substitute

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We had Easter brunch at The Drake restaurant in the Saint Paul Hotel, as the St. Paul Grill was closed. While we've always loved both the St. Paul Hotel and the St. Paul Grill, this was, unfortunately, a truly disappointing experience. Two of the four of us couldn’t eat our meals because they were so unappetizing, one ate theirs but commented that it “wasn’t very good,” and only one of the meals was acceptable. Our waitress kindly offered to replace the meals, but with three out of four dishes being so poorly prepared, we didn’t feel confident that replacements would be any better. Since we don’t often have the chance to dine out together as a family, it was especially disappointing for a holiday meal.

Treated like Royalty!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

I have stayed here twice now and just like the first time, was treated like royalty - right from when you get out of your car upon arrival up to the valet bringing your vehicle back to you upon departure! It's the perfect location to walk to all the downtown St. Paul sites, see a play at the Ordway, etc. I love the history of the hotel, the beautiful chandeliers, flowers, etc. I hope to bring my 17 year old granddaughter this summer for a special treat. Highly, highly recommend!

Okay. Hotel needs updating.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

The assistance at the front door was terrific. Check in was very smooth. Although we had to valet our car because street parking is a challenge, the car was brought VERY promptly. All of the staff we encountered were very helpful and friendly. The rooms, though small, were well appointed. The chair with ottoman was particularly comfortable. Almost no wait for the elevators. The housekeeping isn’t terrific, hair (not mine!) in my bathroom towels and sheets. Pillows are like rocks. As mentioned by others, the drain in the tub/shower does not drain quickly. We were standing in water at each shower. Overall an average stay. But, this gem of a hotel needs updating.

Absolutely the best place to stay in St Paul.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Staff extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms have a lovely decor/design and is very comfortable. Lunch and dinner in the St Paul grill were both very good, plenty of options, pricing consistent with upscale hotel. Absolutely the best place to stay in St. Paul.

Great Property

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

This is an excellent property. It’s very quiet and is in a great location. Arguably the best restaurant in Saint Paul right downstairs. The rooms are always clean and consistent. I like that there’s no pool so you don’t have a bunch of noise. It’s perfect for business travelers. I stay here every time I’m in town.
