About the Hotel

Characterized by the exoticism of the Caribbean and the mystery of Mayan culture, Belize is a land devoted to the "awes" of nature. As you awaken to new discoveries in this repository of the world's only refuge dedicated to the preservation of the jaguar, the howler monkey and the jabiru stork, guests are sure to acquire a new appreciation of wildlife and adventure. Where waterfalls drop into granite pools lined with tiger ferns, while parrots roost in the palmettos, Blancaneaux Lodge rises majestically out of the jungles. On encountering its radiant tropical beauty, Francis Ford Coppola declared it "the paradise hideaway I was looking for." His personal vision for the lodge was one of rustic comfort in harmony with the surroundings. Its elevated villas feature soaring hardwood and hand-woven thatch ceilings, furnishings crafted of local mahogany, and luxurious tiled baths that offers view of the jungle sky. An extensive array of robust activities that include canoeing, hiking, touring and more complete this picture of paradise. Envision yourself gently rocking in a hammock beneath the shade of coconut palms, while the Caribbean unfolds against a white sand beach.

Anniversary Trip and first visit to Belize

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

We had never been to Belize so we decided to go on an adventure there. We went to Blancaneaux for 3 nights and then to Turtle in for 3 nights as well. We were also celebrating our 46th wedding anniversary. We loved both resorts. They were cozy and welcoming. Our casitas at both resorts were so comfortable. The staff are so warm and welcoming. The restaurants were great and gave us a chance to try different foods. I would highly recommend both resorts.

Eco-chic Luxury

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

After visiting the wonderful Blancaneaux Lodge for intense outdoors and Maya site visits we were looking for a few relaxing days (including a snorkel trip). Turtle Inn exceeded all our expectations, a huge difference to crowed beach resorts. No bling bling, no glitzy environments, but eco-chic luxury. Staff was super friendly, when something small happened the front desk reacted immediately and resolved it. Better and faster than in luxury chain hotels. The service in restaurants was outstanding, personal and we had wonderful conversations with locals in all areas of the inn. And we don‘t want to forget the brilliant cocktails at the beach bar. Thanks a lot. And like turtles we will return to the same beach soon.

Barefoot luxury by the sea

I'm not usually one for writing reviews, but having just returned from Belize, I wanted to change this in order to pass on huge thanks and appreciation to the places we stayed and the staff who made it such an enjoyable, comfortable and memorable experience. We loved Turtle Inn: the property and grounds are gorgeous, clearly cared for and well-maintained; the staff warm, welcoming and beyond helpful; the food delicious and the sea views beautiful. We stayed in a beachfront cottage with a private pool (Starfish) and loved it. Waking up each morning to overlook the Caribbean Sea was pretty special indeed. A couple of very small suggestions regarding our property... We loved it but felt the bathrooms could perhaps benefit from some updating. More hooks/a rail in the upstairs one for hanging towels would also be really useful. Really appreciated little touches during our stay, such as beach bags provided for our use; the brilliant housekeeping team lighting candles and anti-bug coils in the evenings; breakfast being delivered to your room for no charge in the mornings etc. Helpfully, there is also a shuttle service in the evenings if you want to venture into Placencia. We are keen birders and did the sunrise birding one morning during our stay. Big shout-out to Melvin who guided this: he was friendly, smiley and so knowledgable. Thank you, Melvin. And thank you to all the staff who looked after us so well - we loved our time at Turtle Inn.

Perfect place to unplug and unwind

Our family had a wonderful stay at Turtle Inn. The staff was fantastic, the grounds warm and welcoming, and the food at the restaurants was outstanding. The vibe at the resort is very slow and laid back, which made for a relaxing stay. I appreciated the fact that the staff was responsive, but not in your face trying to be of too much assistance. The only knock is that there’s no real beach as erosion forced them to create a sea wall - but there really aren’t many true beaches around Placencia, and the sea wall creates a nice level area for bocce ball and chairs to enjoy the view and sea breeze. Plus the pools were nice and were never crowded. We stayed in a 2-br seaside villa which worked out great for our family of four. The lack of AC wasn’t an issue at all as the breeze and ceiling fans kept us cool enough at night. The unit had a sitting area which was good for playing games and enjoying cocktail hour - and both rooms had private outdoor showers in the back. There’s not a lot of action at the resort, which I fully appreciated but can be a bit of a challenge for kids. Turtle Inn is a special place that I look forward to visiting again in the future.

Perfect Family Getaway in Paradise

We just got back from a fantastic stay at the Turtle Inn with our family of four from Brooklyn—and we couldn’t have asked for a better trip. The setting is beautiful and relaxing, the food is genuinely excellent, and the vibe is laid-back but polished. We spent plenty of time unwinding by the beach and pool, but the real highlights were the adventures: zip lining and river tubing in the rainforest, plus snorkeling with lunch on a private island—both totally unforgettable. Turtle Inn made it easy to combine relaxation with once-in-a-lifetime experiences. A perfect, well-rounded trip. We’re already talking about going back.
